Ridiculous, as expected

The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix

September 14, 2025 by genericwhitegirl Leave a Comment

Grady Hendrix and I have an on-again off-again relationship. I didn’t like Horrorstor, but I appreciated the premise and the book itself in terms of the illustrations included. I enjoyed How to Sell a Haunted House enough that I decided to try The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires and give him another chance. I will give him credit for being an author that I picked a random book from because of name recognition. So there’s that working in his favor. But we are […]

The Blanks by Grady Hendrix

The Blanks by Grady Hendrix

June 16, 2025 by Classic 4 Comments

Well dang. That is how you do it. I maybe forgive Grady Hendrix for that puppet book. Okay, I don’t. I just remembered enough in my brain to still be mad about that whole thing. Anyway, “The Blanks” is horror that is just pitch perfect. Does everything get explained? Nope. But it’s a wild and horrifying ride to the end. Maybe because we know what is next for this family, and it’s nothing good. “The Blanks” follows Rachel and her family (one boy, one girl) […]

How To Be A Groovy Witch

Witchcraft for Wayward Girls by Grady Hendrix

January 21, 2025 by dreadpiratekel 1 Comment

“In this world there is one truth; everything has a price, and every price must be paid.” -Witchcraft for Wayward Girls, Grady Hendrix Fifteen-year-old Fern (not her real name but the name she is given for most of the book) is a girl in trouble.  It’s Flordia in the summer of 1970 in this novel (although Fern hails from Alabama) and Fern is in the unwed mother-to-be kind of trouble.  She is also, I will point out fifteen, but in the time and place in […]
