Sheep go “KERBOOOOOM!”

Before & After by Matthew Thomas

August 28, 2021 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

Bingo 16: Fauna So for me, this book is basically what Good Omens would have been had it been set in 1999 (ie end of the world/millennium references abound) and written by Terry Pratchett exclusively. I have nothing against Neil Gaiman, but he definitely has the darker tone and less openly funny humor (ie no humorous footnotes). Before & After is essentially Good Omens, except it stars an approximately 500-year old history professor who may have used to the name Nostradamus in his earlier years, […]

Good Omens: I Finally Read It

Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch by Terry Pratchett & Neil Gaiman

January 16, 2020 by Fiat.Luxury 5 Comments

Hi guys, I finally read this book!  I had meant to read this for so long, and it kept being recommended to me.  After I finished American Gods (like…10 years ago), I checked Good Omens out from the library.  I expected it to be very similar to American Gods, for some reason, so I kind of…just ignored it?  Even though I really liked American Gods, I needed a break from Gaiman I guess?  So I returned it to the library and went on my way.  […]

And so it begins… again. (And so it begins)

The Gates by John Connolly

August 9, 2019 by octothorp Leave a Comment

I enjoyed Good Omens immensely, so I found its non-union Irish equivalent pretty enjoyable too, if somewhat forgettable. That may seem like an unfair judgment, as comedic stories about the end of the world are going to share some commonalities, but this really felt like the SAME story.  We have demons who aren’t especially fond of hell and are crazy drivers, an innocent young boy who is witness to the gates of hell being opened and his ragtag friends, threatening harbingers of the apocalypse having […]

A silly tale of the end times

Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett

June 15, 2019 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

Good Omens, The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch was my first foray into the mind of Terry Pratchett. It was my fourth read from Neil Gaiman. I know, I know, I need to read more Pratchett. Since I enjoyed this collaboration, I definitely will soon. The book follows two unlikely friends Aziraphale, an angel, and Crowley, a demon, who must stop the end of the world. They’ve known each other since the Garden of Eden. They kept in touch despite working for […]
