Morning Star rounds out the Red Rising trilogy by Pierce Brown, wunderkind of science fiction publishing the past three years. There’s a movie deal, a bunch of us have read the books, and you may want to as well. Heck, how else are you to weigh in on the many comments on scootsa1000’s first review of the book? (I’m not going to include a summary of the book. I don’t like the official one, and I cannot think of a better one, so if you […]

Omnis Vir Lupus.

I really wish I was able to tell you that I loved this book. That it was as good as the first two entries in its trilogy, Red Rising and Golden Son. I wish I was going to sit here and tell you to run out and read this RIGHT NOW, to put everything else aside, and to get lost in the world of Reaper and Sevro for a while. But I’m not able to do that. Sorry. Yes, you should definitely read this if you read and […]

The relentless pace continues

February 23, 2016 by Malin Leave a Comment

4.5 stars This review may contain some spoilers for the first book in the series, Red Rising and some spoilers for this book. You probably shouldn’t read this review unless you’re caught up with the series. Go read the book instead. This book kicks off two years after Darrow won the war games rather spectacularly by taking on the corrupt Praetors and staging a show unlike anything previously seen. He appears to be well on his way to winning more glory for himself and his […]

TEAM SEVRO FOREVER

January 22, 2016 by faintingviolet 3 Comments

I started my adventure with the Red Rising books last year because both Red Rising and Golden Son had received enthusiastic reviews from Alexis, scootsa1000, and narfna. Red Rising also checked off a box for me in the 2015 Read Harder challenge, as Brown wrote the book before he was 25. With the third and final book in the series being published next month, I figured it was time to get my act together and read Golden Son in order to be ready. I have […]

If this book was a rollercoaster, it would be the Wicked Twister at Cedar Point. Trust me, the comparison is impeccable.

Not since I first read Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix back in 2003 have I encountered a book to so effectively emulate the experience of riding a rollercoaster. Except, instead of sharp drops in gravity and terrifying falls while barely secured to open seats of plastic and metal messing with your innate human fear of heights and your body’s sense of the space-time continuum, it’s just the words and your imagination making your emotions go all whoopity fuck over the place. Golden Son […]

Per aspera ad astra.

January 28, 2015 by scootsa1000 3 Comments

Through hardships to the stars. Christ. I just finished Golden Son a few minutes ago. And I am exhausted. The sequel to the amazing Red Rising, Golden Son picks up the story a few years after the events of the first book. And then the action LITERALLY never stops. Each time something completely nuts would happen, and a chapter would end, I’d say to myself, “well. there’s no way he can top that.” And then I’d read the next chapter. AND MY GOD, PIERCE BROWN WOULD TOP […]
