Diagonal: Détente, Fiasco, Dreams, Horses, Liberate Four corners and center square: Bananas, Détente, Rings, Liberate, Dreams Poor Anne Elliot is saddled with a vexing family. Wilde Mania

December 13, 2017 by Mikki Blu Leave a Comment

This is the first in a new series by Eloisa James, The Wildes of Lindow Castle,  featuring here Lord Alaric Wilde who is the son of the Duke of Lindow.  He isn’t the heir to the title, that honor belongs to his elder brother North after the first son died unexpectedly.  Alaric has been out of the country for several years, traveling and exploring while writing about his adventures.  He’s completely unaware that his books have created a popular persona among the ton, and he’s […]

Plot There was too much plot and little of it was entirely reasonable. Plot 1: the romance, ostensibly. I’ll get more into this later. Plot 2: Temperance and the Foundling Home, needing a patron. This is part of the contrivance behind Temperance and Lord Caire’s “agreement,” where his […]

Another Historical Romance, But with Cannonball

July 11, 2014 by Mrs. Julien 12 Comments

Lauren Willig’s Pink Carnation floral espionage series continues with book four of eleven, The Seduction of the Crimson Rose, and features droll characters bantering their way through espionage and falling in love. It’s a turn of the 19th century The Thin Man with all of the wit and irreverence one would expect of a Georgian Nick and Nora. As with the first novel, The Secret History Pink Carnation, the adventure is framed by a PhD candidate, Eloise, conducting research on aristocratic spies of the period and […]
