It’s Not for Everyone, But the Mad Fans Will Appreciate

Fire & Blood: 300 Years Before A Game of Thrones (A Targaryen History) (A Song of Ice and Fire) by George R. R. Martin

April 29, 2019 by LittlePlat Leave a Comment

The Game of Thrones TV series is hurtling towards a conclusion, and George R. R. Martin has still hasn’t given us a release date for the Winds of Winter. Sadly, this leaves those of us who started with the original book series, A Song of Ice and Fire (ASOIAF), pining pathetically in wait. So I could understand that for many readers, Fire and Blood may not have been the exact thing they were clamouring for. It’s not as if we haven’t been exposed to any […]

https://killingmykindle.com/2019/02/12/episode-2-4-its-so-hard-to-say-goodbye-to-yesterday/ Wherein I review: 11 – Vultures (Miriam Black #6) by Chuck Wendig 12 – Fire & Blood by George R.R. Martin 13 – The Far Side of the World (Aubrey & Maturin #10) by Patrick O’Brian Jammed that B2M song right up in the thoughthole, eh?  Chuck Wendig takes a bow on his Miriam Black books, and I get wistful.  GRRM writes yet another damn book that isn’t Winds of Winter, but it did remind me of how much I love ASOIAF, so I’m […]

Does what it says on the tin.

Fire & Blood (A Targaryen History, #1) by George R.R. Martin

January 29, 2019 by narfna Leave a Comment

First thing about this book that you should know going in: this is not a novel. It is a history book, written in the style of a history book, from the POV of a Maester in-world. It is a made-up history about a made-up world, but it is still history, and there’s a lot of it. If you do not like reading history, or fake history, you will not like this book. It is very similar to A World of Ice and Fire, which was […]

Possible Heresy Alert

September 10, 2017 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

I have a confession: I have deliberately avoided reading A Game of Thrones and the following books. When the series first got big, I picked up A Game of Thrones, the first of the Song of Ice and Fire series, and flipped through it, but it didn’t really grab me.  I don’t have HBO and I’ve not followed the tv show, for similar reasons and the additional facts that I don’t especially enjoy watching graphic violence or sex, or soap opera type dramas. This was […]

Just Another One Martin’s Procrastination Projects

June 26, 2016 by Fabius Maximus 1 Comment

I just finished this book last Friday and instead of adding it to my ever growing stack of books to be reviewed, I thought I move it up in my queue because of today’s finale of Game Of Thrones season 6. The World of Ice and Fire contains information about the novel series, however. Martin’s co-authors, Elio M. Garcia and Linda Antonsson, are the people behind the fan-site Westeros.org; they even advise Martin on lore when he becomes stuck. He actually approached them about the […]

George asked her to write a ghost story

February 21, 2016 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

This book was written by Gillian Flynn, who you might all know from writing that book that nobody read, “Gone Girl”.  JK, I’m pretty sure everyone read it.  She actually wrote this book because George R.R. Martin (author of those other books that nobody read – A Song of Ice and Fire) asked her to write a ghost story.  It’s really short.  I think I read it in about an hour, which was pretty awesome. We originally get introduced to the main character as a […]
