“The most important thing is finding someone you wish to play with.”

Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin

February 1, 2023 by anana Leave a Comment

Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin was all over my radar last year, both on official “Best of 2022” lists and in more informal recommendations from friends. I didn’t quite get to it in 2022 (partially because I was 657th on the waitlist at the library for it!), but I found it to be well worth the wait and I’m so happy to have started off 2023 on a strong note with it.  The plot of Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow follows best […]

The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin

I’m nearly a decade late to The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin. It has been on my to read list since 2016 and got pushed to the top tier of the pile last year for the Read Harder challenge (as it does take place in a big way in a bookstore). Then I never got to it but seeing that there was a movie adaptation out I decided to get my proverbial act together and dig into the story.   The book tells […]

I could’ve gone a lifetime of tomorrows without reading this book…

Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin

January 12, 2023 by Travis_J_Smith 13 Comments

What better way to kickstart 2023 than to read what every outlet, including Book of the Month (which I received the book from), named as their book of the year? Well, having now read it, I wish I’d instead continued to put it off until tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow. The first half of the book was passable enough, I thought, but that the most positivity I could manage then, and I feel misguided being even that positive in hindsight. Yesterday, I woke up sick […]

Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin

This Time Tomorrow by Emma Straub

Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel

The Candy House by Jennifer Egan

In case I don’t get around to finishing all the reviews I was hoping to before the deadline…I wanted to make sure to share my thoughts on my four favorite books of the year: Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow; This Time Tomorrow; The Candy House; and Sea of Tranquility. 2022 was an amazing year for books. I preordered Sea of Tranquility and received in on release day. I finished it on release day too. I was a little nervous that I wouldn’t love it quite […]

Love is both a constant and a variable

Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin

December 8, 2022 by booktrovert 1 Comment

I wish I had waited just a day to write my best-of list, because I would absolutely add this book. I loved being in this world, with these characters. Sam and Sadie meet when they are young, in a children’s hospital, in the 1980s – the time of The Oregon Trail (among other games). Sam is a patient, recovering from a terrible car accident that will have life-long repercussions for his feet (not to mention his mental state). Sadie’s older sister Alice has cancer (a […]

No more Tomorrow and I’m ok with that

Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin

November 6, 2022 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

Probably unpopular, or at least in the minority, review ahead; I did not especially enjoy Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow. The narrative style made it a little hard to tell the difference between Said and Sam’s perspectives, and given that the novel switches back and forth, giving them more distinctive voices would have been nice. They also have really similar personalities in a lot of ways; both have traumas in their pasts which the other sort of knows about but doesn’t seem to want to […]
