Cannonball! – I crushed my goal with Ms. Marvel

December 12, 2018 by Dome'Loki 4 Comments

Earlier this year I accidentally read the fourth Ms. Marvel graphic novel before the third, Ms.Marvel: Crushed.  Instead of immediately going back and reading number three I went on to read other things.  When I was ready to pick it up, I couldn’t find it, the house seemed to have eaten it.  About two weeks ago it resurfaced and I decided to save it to complete my cannonball.  Sosuke is not as thrilled as I am, since his nap was disturbed to take this photo. […]

Ms. Marvel Returns and WHY AREN’T YOU READING THIS?

November 24, 2018 by Emmalita 6 Comments

Narfna and I have talked about it and we agree – G. Willow Wilson’s run of Ms. Marvel is consistently one of the best comic books out there. It’s hard for us to keep repeating ourselves on this – It’s great and you should be reading it.

Vol. 9 and still going strong.

October 23, 2018 by narfna 3 Comments

Should I just copy and paste things from my previous reviews of this series so as to just really hammer the point home? “Okay, so Ms. Marvel is probably my SECOND favorite comic, definitely my favorite superhero comic. I love Carol Danvers probably as much as I love Kamala Khan, but the last couple of Captain Marvel trades have fallen a little flat for me, and meanwhile G. Willow Wilson continues to absolutely KILL IT with Kamala.” -Me, three years ago “How does this series […]

Read out of order, stood on its own

August 17, 2018 by Dome'Loki 1 Comment

When I picked this up to read I was confident I had read Ms. Marvel Vol. 3.  Oops, I was wrong about that, darn fickle memory.  Even though I was missing 4 issues of backstory, this collection was self contained and gave enough information through dialog that I got on just fine.  Kamala Khan as Ms. Marvel continues to be my other new favorite superhero (right alongside Squirrel Girl).  While other supers are associated with more glamorous cities, Ms. Marvel is the protector of Jersey […]

Just an everyday Jersey Girl

I’ve tended to read specific graphic novels and comics and not really venture out of my comfort zone but I found Ms. Marvel Volume 1 for free on Kindle Prime Reading and thought I’d give it a go. It had been pretty highly recommended and I was interested to see this take on a muslim teenager becoming a superhero. It was obviously a first volume so we had a fair amount of info dump and exposition but the bones of the story were solid. I […]

She’s got the superhero blues.

January 31, 2018 by narfna Leave a Comment

This is probably actually a five-star comic, but it was a little depressing and I resent that it was a little depressing, which is really my problem and not the book’s, but still. Enjoyment is ultimately part of my rating system, so, minus half a star, Ms. Marvel! Regardless of how it made me want to punch all humans in the mouth a little, Ms. Marvel continues to be the most solid, contemplative (yet still somehow fun) superhero comic I’ve read. Granted, that’s not as many as […]
