Undermajordomo Minor

A Young Man, a Castle & a Very Deep Hole

January 26, 2017 by Gracey the Giant 4 Comments

Let me first just say that I am very much a fan of Patrick DeWitt. His previous book, The Sisters Brothers, delighted me with its quirky weirdness.  And Undermajordomo Minor does the same.  It’s definitely quirky, definitely weird and, like The Sisters Brothers, quite funny.  Especially if you have a sort of weird sense of humor. Undermajordomo Minor tells the story of Lucien (Lucy) Minor who leaves his home village of Bury because he doesn’t feel he has any reason to stay.  His father has passed away, […]

Well, that was certainly different

December 31, 2015 by Malin Leave a Comment

What did I just read? This comic certainly is completely different from anything I’ve experienced before. So the first time Suzie masturbates and orgasms, it literally makes time freeze. She’s not sure if it’s like that for everyone and having no one to ask, and limited resources to figure things out, she’s a bit lost. Then she meets Jon at a party and is surprised to discover that it’s exactly the same for him. They’ve always believed themselves to be alone, and now, when they’ve […]

A delightful little picture book

December 26, 2015 by Malin 2 Comments

Princess Pinecone wants to be a warrior and get cool trophies or weapons, but instead she tends to get big fuzzy sweaters. For her birthday this year, what she wants the more than anything is a horse. A big, brave, strong horse. A warrior horse, fit for the warrior princess that she is. Her parents really do try, but instead, she gets a pony. A little round, yellow pony who likes to eat pretty much everything and fart a lot. Princess Pinecone valiantly tries to […]

This review is mainly pictures. But pictures are worth a thousand words, right? Bam! Instant word count.

When preparing to write this review, I got quite a surprise. I searched in the archives on my blog and on Goodreads to find my review of the first Hark! A Vagrant book and discovered that not only had I not reviewed it at any point, but I hadn’t even entered it as read on Goodreads. I have absolutely no idea why, as I got the first book back in 2011 and was extremely happy that Kate Beaton was finally collecting some of her amazing […]

An indie action-comedy-thriller starring Ram McJohnbo

November 4, 2015 by Halbs 1 Comment

Last weekend brought prime pleasure reading weather. It was rainy and chilly, and I was spending a long weekend on a ranch. In between watching San Andreas and Fury Road, I read Bryn Schurman’s Further Complications. It was the right choice for an enjoyable “beach” read. Further Complications bends genres at will. It’s funny, tense, and mysterious without taking itself too seriously. Think Pineapple Express, or pretty much any Tom Cruise movie from the 80s or 00s. Since it is has a lot of mystery […]

“Benedict Cumberbatch is like Alan Rickman Benjamin Buttoning”

September 29, 2015 by Malin 4 Comments

Back in October 2012, when I finally decided to see what all these Cannonballers were on about when they kept gushing about a strange-looking book with a taxidermied mouse on the cover, and gave in and read Let’s Pretend This Never Happened, I didn’t actually know who the Bloggess was. What a sad and empty place my life was up until that point. Once I actually read her first book, I also went out and bought it in audio book (She sings the chapter titles […]
