The men who were Queen

Queen in Comics! NMB Comics Biographies) by Emmanuel Marie

May 4, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

The biggest issue I have with Queen in Comics! NMB Comics Biographies) is I do not like drawn leg hair or chest hair. And since we are talking about Freddie Mercury there is a lot of chest hair! But despite that, Emmanuel Marie, and Sophie Blitman created a graphic novel that covers a lot of good stuff (I use the technical word stuff because there is a lot of good, juicy stuff going on). Different artists/authors hit on the highlights of the journey of Queen. […]

The Girl on the (Subway) Train

One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston

July 23, 2022 by Abi 3 Comments

A.k.a. the time that a weaponised use of Freddie Mercury had me sobbing at 1am with the book pressed against my forehead, begging for a happy ending. Yeah. In my defence, the reason I was doing that was that the book would not let me put it down until I have finished, after I had brazenly decided to start a reading session at 11:30pm in bed, knowing that I was heading into the climax. One Last Stop is Casey McQuiston’s follow up to Red, White and […]

Don’t Stop Me Now (I Want) Somebody To Love, and you’re it Freddie

Freddie & Me: A Coming-of-Age (Bohemian) Rhapsody by Mike Dawson

December 1, 2020 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Do have a band that just followed you throughout your life? Did you eat, sleep and breath that band? Did you also tease your little sister merciless about her “boy bands” and their breakups? Well Mike does in Freddie & Me: A Coming-of-Age (Bohemian) Rhapsody. The story Mike Dawson tells us is how the band, Queen and mostly Freddie Mercury, made an impact on his life. It colored almost every big moment of his life (from the first time he heard them, from the time […]

The song might be “Who wants to live forever?” But Freddie knew he would

Queen: The Unauthorized Biography (Band Records 4) by Soledad Romero Marino

November 5, 2020 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I am biased when I say this book is a five. I enjoy the music of Queen. I do not have a lot of knowledge about them (I know Freddie Mercury is a stage name, he was born in Zanzibar, he was flamboyant, he had a talent that few have been able to copy), but I do consider myself a fan. Therefore, when Queen: The Unauthorized Biography (Band Records 4) by Soledad Romero Marino is an introduction to Freddie Mercury and the career Queen without […]
