Many self-loathing. Such love. Wow.

Fifty Shades of Grey by EL James

January 16, 2019 by Zirza 7 Comments

Hi. My name is Anastasia Rose Steele. This is totally an actual person name and not made up in any way. I go by Ana, as in pro-Ana, because we share a sense of destructive self-loathing. Anyhoodle, can I just tell you about this totally charming guy I met? I hated him the first time I saw him. It was love at first sight. Let me tell you a little bit about myself. First of all, with my trim frame and my luscious brown hair […]

THIS BOOK IS STUPID

December 10, 2017 by Lynn 3 Comments

I’ve decided to half cannonball on this, the worst of all the books I’ve read this year. Mainly because that’s how it’s come up in my giant back log of reviews, but also because it somehow feels fitting after the way this year has gone. I read the originals a year or so after they came out. They read like what they are: poorly written fan fiction based on a not particularly good original story. They’re problematic for all the reasons that have been discussed […]

Grey is the dullest colour.

July 1, 2015 by kdm 7 Comments

Ugh. I feel dirty. And not in the “oh baby, I’m a dirty girl” way that I’m sure E.L. James wants me to feel, but in an unclean, “Oh God, I can’t believe I actually read this trash” kind of way. But I am a firm believer in the idea that you have to know something to really be able to make fun of it, and so, to my everlasting shame, I have read all three 50 Shades books, and now this reborquel garbage. For […]

50 Shades of Liveblogging and a Drinking Game (NSFW Language Ahoy)

March 9, 2015 by TyburnBlossom 14 Comments

Rather than attempting to review Fifty Shades of Grey, I present my live read of the book. Herein you’ll find lots of cussing, lots of shouting, and definitely not safe for work descriptions of plenty of things. And it’s very long, because it turns out I had a lot to say while I was reading. A drinking game evolved during the reading, and the whole thing has been compiled at the end, if that’s the sort of thing you’re interested in.
