August 19, 2025 by ElCicco Leave a Comment

Cbr17bingo G (bingo) The Ghostwriter is a crime/unsolved murder novel that revolves around a father and daughter who are estranged from one another. Their relationship has been damaged by substance abuse, lies and secrets but an unusual set of circumstances reunites them. Will this be an opportunity to mend fences and resolve a sensational double murder? Or will it lead to charges against dear old dad? In June 1975, the bodies of teenaged siblings Poppy and Danny Taylor were discovered stabbed to death in their […]

Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Re-Writes Your Story?

Long Live Evil: Time of Iron Book One by Sarah Rees Brennan

August 18, 2025 by ElCicco 3 Comments

Cbr17bingo Border — the main character literally crosses a border between reality and fiction, and straddles the border between good and evil; the kingdom in the story is bordered by the Dread Ravine, which is full of the undead. This book is one of the most bonkers, crazy, fun stories I’ve read in a long time, and I thank Dome’loki for the review that turned me on to it. I think we’re all familiar with time travel stories, where a character is sent back in […]

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue: Time Traveller’s Wife from Wish.com?

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab

August 17, 2025 by llp Leave a Comment

I was messaging with a friend and we were trading book recommendations a few weeks ago. I recommended she read Erin Morgenstern’s The Night Circus, and she recommended V.E. Schwab’s The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue. She has been really enjoying listening to audiobooks while walking, but I am still a paper person and was able to get a very quick turnaround on my library reserve. I otherwise went in cold – my friend’s recommendation is that it was a really compelling story with a […]

Yes, There Are No Scripts. So It Is Written in the Script

Ghost Cities by Siang Lu

August 15, 2025 by LittlePlat Leave a Comment

Siang Lu’s Ghost Cities is the winner of this year’s Miles Franklin Award, which is Australia’s most prestigious literary award. It had also been sitting on my reader long before it got nominated. Reading about Lu’s win was the kick in the pants I needed to pick the book up and give it read through. And I’m really quite ashamed that I hadn’t done it sooner.  Ghost Cities is an imaginative and bonkers novel weaving together two tangentially related plots. The first unfolds in a […]

The book, "Malibu Rising" by Taylor Jenkins Reid is lying on a black and white cat that is curled up on a blanket.

I feel the title should have been Malibu *Burning*

Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Bingo: Play – Surfing is an important part of this family. My introduction to Taylor Jenkins Read was Daisy Jones and the Six.  I then went on to Carrie Soto is Back and The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.  All listened to in audiobook format, which were amazing.  Highly recommend them.  It was a happy day when I found Malibu Rising in a free little library.  I needed a book to take to the beach a week ago and this seemed like the perfect candidate. It was nice […]
