Now I want beignets …

Almost There by Farrah Rochon

February 18, 2025 by Jen K Leave a Comment

I really enjoyed Farrah Rochon’s The Boyfriend Project series and Pardon my Frenchie, but she doesn’t seem to have any adult audience books scheduled for release so ended up deciding to check out this entry into the Twisted Tales series. I have only read one other one from this series, which was a Beauty and the Beast focused story. These are all “What if” stories, giving the authors space to explore within those worlds. I was maybe a chapter in when I realized that I […]

“Are you threatening me with a good time, Drew Sullivan?” “I don’t make threats, Dr. Kelley. I make promises.”

The Hookup Plan by Farrah Rochon

I have enjoyed Farrah Rochon’s Boyfriend Project series a lot and The Hookup Plan has been one of my most anticipated reads this year. In the first book, The Boyfriend Project, Rochon created three women who meet and become friends when they all find themselves dating the same guy. The three – Samiah, Taylor, and London – make a pact to be friends and hold each other accountable as they strive to work on different areas of their lives. Dr. London Kelly, a pediatric surgical […]

Not enough development for a really satisfying romance

The Dating Playbook by Farrah Rochon

February 24, 2022 by Sophia 1 Comment

The Dating Playbook (2021) by Farrah Rochon is another book I found on NPR’s Best Books List. This one was a romance novel featuring a football player and a fitness trainer. I thought it was all right, but I was a little disappointed. I liked the characters, but both the story and the characters never felt real enough for me to really care about them or their situation. Usually I gobble down romance novels in a day or two, but this one took a couple of weeks […]

An okay romance.

The Dating Playbook (The Boyfriend Project, #2) by Farrah Rochon

October 22, 2021 by narfna Leave a Comment

I was pretty into this at first but then my interest waned like a third of the way through and never really came back. Certainly it didn’t help that I was reading another stellar romance* at the same time and this one doesn’t hold up to it. This wasn’t bad, though! Just not great. *The Heart Principle, in case you were curious. This is the second book in Rochon’s adult romance series, following The Boyfriend Project, which I also generally liked but had some issues […]

The Dating Playbook by Farrah Rochon

August 8, 2021 by Emmalita 2 Comments

One of the things my favorite authors have in common is that they love their characters for who they are at any given minute of the story and not because they represent an idea, an architype, or a wish fulfilled. In The Dating Playbook, the second in the Boyfriend Project series, Farrah Rochon loves her characters.  She loves her three friends – Samiah, Taylor, and London. She loves Jamar. She lets them feel all their feelings, be indecisive, be sexy, be messy and always worthy […]

Love was the last thing on their minds

Destiny's Captive by Beverly Jenkins

The Proposal by Jasmine Guillory

The Boyfriend Project by Farrah Rochon

December 21, 2020 by teresaelectro 6 Comments

Romance has been a great salve for the general pandemic malaise. I’ve been loving own voices books featuring Black protagonists finding love, even when it was absolutely the last thing on their minds. These three novels all written by Black women were refreshing and reminded me why I love this genre. I absolutely love reading about an independent woman who falls in love with a sexy man who has his act together. I picked up Destiny’s Captive by Beverly Jenkins from the library. I had […]
