CBRBINGO – POLITICS: A cinnamon roll vampire love interest, and some great fantasy worldbuilding.

Blood Mercy (Blood Grace, #1) by Vela Roth

October 23, 2023 by narfna Leave a Comment

I really, really liked this. A slow burn fantasy romance where the fantasy is incredibly detailed and satisfying. We’re living the dream! Blood Mercy is the first book in a self-published fantasy romance series. Cassia is our main character, and she is the bastard daughter of a king (a terrible, tyrannical, cruel king). She normally tries to stay away from court in order to stay away from her father, but a once in a lifetime event is about to occur and she needs to be […]

Corin was just looking for an evening to forget everything.  Audric figures one night of indulgence before he’s betrothed won’t hurt.  Neither of them were expecting the explosive chemistry between them or the instant connection on a personal level.  Of course, Audric had no clue that Corin is his bethrothed’s illegitimate half-brother, and Corin doesn’t discover Audric’s a prince until they meet again the next day at the betrothal ceremony.  It’s a political marriage for the good of the country, and both Corin and Audric […]

Love, Destiny, and People You Can’t Fucking Trust

Stormwind of Shadows by Jasmine Jenkins, Sophia Suliman

September 14, 2023 by Sarah Leave a Comment

Listen, these books are damn good. I don’t know what to tell you! If Lost Stars was about the Greywick siblings discovering the chaos and pitfalls of fated purpose, this installment is about that same approach to fated love. Because it turns out: 1) The problem with magical Love at First Sight is that it doesn’t care if you live wildly incompatible lives, and also he’d readily murder you if he knew your biggest secret. 2) The problem with enemies-to-lovers is that you can’t fucking […]

“Small talk with the dragon. How are you? Eaten any adventurers lately? Sure, just had one this morning. Look, I still got his femur stuck in my teeth. Is that upsetting to you?”

Well, everyone was right. This was great, and the marketing/art department at Avon should be shamed heavily for the way they did this book and this entire series dirty*. I imagine there are many, many readers who would enjoy this book, and presumably the rest of the series, if the covers weren’t a) heinously misrepresenting the contents of the story, and b) butt ugly and embarrassing. I was one of those readers! And then people whose tastes I trust kept pushing them on me until […]

Whisper is a Hound, an elite assassin controlled by blood magic.  It’s the only life he’s known.  And his latest mission comes with a reward he’s been waiting for.  It’s an unusual mission though.  Whisper is to infiltrate the court of Prince Julian Sandry, keep him alive until the signal comes, then kill the prince when the signal comes.  Getting into the playboy prince’s good graces isn’t the hard part.  But Whisper quickly finds that beneath the playboy façade, Julian is smart, warm, and caring, […]
