Slightly Weaker Than the Others But a Good Ending to a Series

Prince of Agony by Tavia Lark

April 28, 2024 by Kit Moonstar Leave a Comment

Prince Kazia Dire keeps everyone at arm’s length for a reason.  He learned at an early age that mages couldn’t be trusted and would only bring him pain.  But having a captured mage from Silaise at his beck and call is an opportunity that he can’t pass up.  Lucian Vaire has hated house Dire since they cost him everything in the last war.  However, he’ll freely admit that being in Kazia’s company is better than being tortured by King Imrik.  And he can’t help but […]

Prince and Betrothed by Tavia Lark

February 25, 2024 by Kit Moonstar Leave a Comment

Sei had been trained to be the perfect grail, a living power source for a mage, almost from birth.  Being betrothed to Prince Marek as part of a treaty is finally his chance to actual do that.  Except the dragonrider prince has absolutely no interested in either Sei or using his power.  Marek wasn’t supposed to be the one getting betrothed.  That was his brother Vana who has disappeared.  He’s terrified of using Sei and burning him out; dragonriders don’t use grails for a reason.  […]

A Strong Start To the Second Arc of the Series

Prince and Bodyguard by Tavia Lark

February 25, 2024 by Kit Moonstar Leave a Comment

A failed rebellion in his home province led Vana Dire to be sent to Draskora to be adopted by the king years ago.  He’s managed to survive the cutthroat royal court by not showing weakness and relying on his magic bound bodyguard, Daromir, who both shares his pain and always knows where Vana is through their bond.  They’ve been together since Vana left Kaiskara, and he’s the one person Vana always knows he can count on.  Which is part of why Vana keeps the fact […]

Magical queer historical romance

Of Socialites and Prizefights by Arden Powell

February 10, 2024 by LB Leave a Comment

Arden Powell has been on my radar for a while and I’ve been collecting their books, but lesbians is what finally broke the seal (I am but a simple lesbian lol) and now I want to dive into the whole Flos Magicae backlist to see all the characters in their own stories. Deepa is a singer at a club and doesn’t believe in love, so when one of her paramours curses her to become a leopard every midnight and tells her the only way to […]

A new adult enemies to lovers fantasy romance that may hit harder for you than it did for me.

The Jasad Heir (The Scorched Throne, #1) by Sara Hashem

February 5, 2024 by narfna Leave a Comment

I’m going to chalk this one up to being not the right book for me (maybe just not the right time?) because I really can’t think of anything this book did wrong. It just didn’t get me in my feels. In fact, it did a lot of things right that these fantasy romance new adult type books often don’t. The enemies to lovers thing was very real. They were DEFINITELY enemies. Like, in just a slightly different universe, the male MC could have murdered her […]

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this one!

The Foxglove King (The Nightshade Crown, #1) by Hannah Whitten

January 12, 2024 by narfna Leave a Comment

This kind of surprise can be a double-edged sword, though, so take my recommendation with a grain of salt. When your expectations going into a book are “probably going to DNF this,” anything compelling will feel better than it probably actually is. With that said, however, I think there are genuinely some things to love about this series! Even with some of the uneven writing. (And apparently it is a HUGE improvement over the author’s first series, which I won’t be reading.) I would say […]
