What if, what if, what if

When I found out a new Kristin Cashore book was coming out I was REALLY excited. When I found out it wasn’t a new book in the Graceling series, I was a little less excited, but cautiously optimistic. It wasn’t something I’d pre-order, but it was something I’d get on the library hold list for. I was super curious what direction this book would take and if I’d like it as much as the Graceling books. Luckily, I can say that I really enjoyed Jane, […]

This is a series I am still reading.

I have SO MANY THOUGHTS. For most of the time reading this book, I was pretty sure I was going to give it three stars. I haven’t given a Sword of Truth book three stars since the first one, which I read way back in 2009. (Knowing how the series turns out from there, I think that may have been an optimistic rating, and if I read it again now, I might round it down to two stars.) Then somewhere around the middle I was […]

What’s the title of this book? I didn’t hear the first 20 times you said it.

The Grace of Kings by Ken Liu is one of those books that I bought because I loved the cover. Love the font, love the image, love the finish. It’s a book that felt great in my hands when I picked it up. The story is meant to be an Asian take on traditional fantasy. Kuni Garu and Mata Zyndu are young men living under the regime of an emperor who took over the seven kingdoms of the Islands of Dara, Garu from a middle […]

Joey had reasons. They were threefold.

Fantasy Romance is quickly becoming one of my favorite genres. Here’s why: You get to live in an entirely made up world for a while, full of fairies, magic, animals who can communicate with humans, AND DID I MENTION MAGIC. Sometimes you want the people in those stories to make out and give you swoony feelings. That’s it. Those are my reasons. They are simple, yes (not even threefold!) but feelings don’t have to be complicated all the time. Anyway, The Sea King is the […]

Schwab sticks the landing (mostly)

January 26, 2018 by yesknopemaybe 1 Comment

3.5 stars. It’s always a bit scary heading into the final book of a beloved series. Will things wrap up satisfactorily? Will my favorite characters die? Will I be able to read it again and still love it? Ideally you want it to be the best book in the series, but just not ruining the series will usually suffice. That was kind of my feeling with this one. Although I didn’t love it as much as the first two books, it was still a satisfying […]

Pirates, Magic, & Knife Wielding Bisexuals

January 24, 2018 by yesknopemaybe 1 Comment

4.5 stars. In general, I’m not someone who rereads books. There are just SO many good books out there waiting to be read that I have a hard time going back. Even if it was a book I liked, there’s always the fear that I might not like it as much the second time. I want to keep my memory of that book pristine. The problem is, instead of remembering plots and characters, I tend to remember how I felt about a book and that […]
