Harajuku Rapunzel

December 31, 2014 by Robyn Robotron Leave a Comment

First Gwen Stefani, now Rapunzel?  I do have to say, I love her style, especially that bathroom haircut and her final fight outfit with that fuzzy coat that I’m not going to tell you what it’s made of.

Not at all what I expected. Sadface forever :(

December 31, 2014 by narfna Leave a Comment

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills. Like, there should be a GIF of Will Ferrell as Mugatu making that face with his big hair right here in this review, only I’m too upset to actually find and put it here. And I feel like the ridiculousness of that image would sort of undercut how, I don’t know . . . upset? I was while reading this book. I even read all of Pat’s warnings: on his website, in the forward to the book, on […]

The last Percy Jackson book? Who knows.

December 31, 2014 by narfna Leave a Comment

This is what I wrote upon finishing the book last month: “My emotions have been played like a cheap fiddle at a hoedown AND I LOVED EVERY MINUTE. I like, am alllllmost tempted to give this five stars, but I’m gonna sit on that impulse for now (see cheap fiddle hoedown comment above.) So for now, 4.5 stars. Also shut up, YOU’RE CRYING.” I’ve cooled off since then, and I’d probably need to re-read before I can form definite opinions about specific details (mostly because […]

Slightly disappointing prequel to a series I love.

December 31, 2014 by narfna Leave a Comment

This is a prequel, and prequels can be dicey, so let me just start by saying: this could have been much, much, much worse. Clariel is the story–not of how young Clariel becomes Chlorr of the Mask from the original series like I was expecting it to be–but of how the foundations for that eventual change are laid. Seventeen year old Clariel moves with her family to the city of Belisaere. Clariel’s a girl of the forest, so right away this makes her unhappy, but the city […]

Professional athlete of the future turns superhero

December 30, 2014 by teresaelectro 3 Comments

This is my last review of the year (and the day)! By some miracle of will power, I met my half-cannonball goal despite only starting reviews last month. Must do better next year, for realz. My final post is for Mara, a YA graphic novel set in the future where professional sports is an even bigger business. Sport competitions keep everyone distracted from the endless world war cycle of Earth. Mara is superstar volleyball player whose been training since she was 2 years old! Barely legal, she lives […]

A sexy rogue vampire runs the gangs of steampunk London

December 30, 2014 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

Honoria Todd is on the run from vampire nobles in Bec McMaster’s Kiss of Steel. Her father was murdered while working on a vamp cure for the Echelon, the near-immortal royalty who injected themselves with the virus. She’s forced to flee with her sister and brother into the night promising her father never to let them have his notes. She lives under false name in the rookeries of Whitechapel. She lies to get a job working as linguist in the rich part of town to make […]
