I Keep Forgetting I Read This …

April 17, 2018 by Jen K Leave a Comment

After years without contact from his daughter, David Walker is on his deathbed at the local hospital, and ends up making one last effort to connect with his family, reaching out to his granddaughter.  Elle is surprised when she discovers her grandfather is not only still alive, but a patient at the same hospital where she works and her best friend’s current favorite patient.  Elle’s mom, Marie has long refused to talk about her past, and even now, Elle is afraid to confront her due […]

If Cats Could Talk …

April 3, 2018 by Jen K Leave a Comment

When CatOnMyHead mentioned that this novel was narrated from the cat’s perspective, I knew I was going to end up reading it sooner or later. Boo, the cat in question, has always thought of the mother of the family has her person while the two teenagers, father and new baby were simply extras, or in the worst cases, competition for Mother’s attention.  As a result, the cat is at a loss when Mother disappears. Since Boo can’t ask, and the humans are not talking to […]

The Boring Lives of Medium-Level Jerks

January 5, 2018 by janet snakehole 9 Comments

Hi everyone! This is my very first review of my very first Cannonball! And… it nearly sank my ship. You know that thing people say about “when someone tells you who they are, believe them”? I should have taken that theory and applied it to this book. There’s a quote early on about the family whom this book revolves around: “There was nothing remarkable about the Whitshanks… But like most families, they imagined they were special.” The key word here is “imagined” because they aren’t […]

Kentucky Dynasty

December 21, 2017 by Mikki Blu Leave a Comment

This is the last book in the Bourbon Kings trilogy, and the whole series is an over the top soap opera tale of a Kentucky bourbon dynasty.  It’s not a book you can read on its own, so much of the action occurred with the first two books, and this one wraps up the mystery and gives characters their send off into the sunset.  If you were a fan of Dynasty or Dallas back in the day, you’d probably enjoy the insanity of this series! […]

I loved this book

September 15, 2017 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

I just need to get this out of the way first.  I know the author of this book (her real name is not Maggie Preston).  She works with me, and I really like her.  We were out at happy hour one night, and she was like “oh yeah, I wrote a book.”  So, being the Amazonwhore that I am, I immediately bought it.  Like from my phone at the table.  It’s only $4 for the Kindle edition (it looks like it’s only on Kindle).  I’m […]

Gillian Flynn is the M Night Shyamalan of Literature

May 9, 2016 by KM Bezner Leave a Comment

Because boy does she love her plot twists, and throwing plot twists in the middle of her plot twists. I probably would have enjoyed this book more when it came out, or before I had read any of Flynn’s other stories. Or before Gone Girl, and anyone who hadn’t read her books could remain ignorant of this reputation. But I have read some of her other stories, and I know all about her love of plot twists. I wasn’t really on the lookout for the […]
