Who would win Dinosaurs or Ants?

Who Would Win: Triceratops vs. Spinosaurus by Jerry Pallotta

Who Would Win? Green Ants Vs. Army Ants by Jerry Pallotta

April 20, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I have reviewed the Who Would Win? books before. Overall, they are a fun series that gives information about different animals, and if matched up (sometimes naturally happening and sometimes due to imagination) who would win in a Battle Royale. Sometimes one of the books (done in an early reader sized book but range from around ages seven to ten, depending on the reader/listener) might seem “off” by saying a skunk would defeat a coyote (or something like that) but hey, there are skunks and […]

No ifs ands or butts about it, I like to toot my own horn and say I like these science books!

Battle of the Butts: The Science Behind Animal Behinds by Jocelyn Rish

Does It Fart? A Kid's Guide to the Gas Animals Pass by Nick Caruso and Dani Rabaiotti

November 24, 2021 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

This review will give you two science books for the humorous side of your reader interested in nontraditional facts about animals. However, I focus more on the first as it was my favoirte of the two. Battle of the Butts: The Science Behind Animal Behinds by Jocelyn Rish and illustrated by David Creighton-Pester is a humorous and educational picture book that gives you the poop on farts, butts and the animals that have them. From killer posteriors to beach building tushes, it is all here. […]

Anything But

Mediocre by Ijeoma Oluo

March 11, 2021 by Nannerbears 1 Comment

What are we doing—we’re constantly holding up the mediocre white man as the standard and then bending to it at the detriment of good ideas, fairness, and equity. Mediocre is a must read. It was inappropriate to yell “Yes!” after every sentence, but that’s how I felt. In some ways, it’s telling you what you already know, but it’s also explaining how deep the problem really is and also affirming that no, it’s not just you. I remember so clearly arguing with my brother when […]

Nothing is Fishy with Something’s Fishy

June 29, 2018 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Something’s Fishy is a nontraditional graphic novel. Not set up in the panels that we think of for graphic novels, still, the story and illustrations are one. The story is told while the other characters react but all naturally and flowing into one and another. There is no separation of the two. This is a casual take to present facts in a fun manner. The other pets in the story have some interesting antics that help move things along, but also makes you stop and […]
