I don’t know what a newt is. It’s a lizard, right? I really don’t want to be a lizard.

The Kiss Curse (Graves Glen #2) by Erin Sterling

October 19, 2025 by carmelpie 2 Comments

Gwyn had no doubt that whoever he was, his ancestors had absolutely once stared down the business end of a guillotine. You didn’t get cheekbones like that without oppressing some peasants. ― Erin Sterling, The Kiss Curse CBR17 Bingo: Purple This story takes place one year after The Ex Hex. Gwynn is bored. Her shop, Something Wicked, is barely breaking even, she hasn’t had a relationship in over a year, and her cousin and best friend Vivi is disgustingly in love and unavailable for witchy shenanigans […]

“Vivi, if we could actually place curses on people, that bitch who always gives me whole milk when I ask for soy at Coffee Cauldron would be a dead woman by now,” Gwyn said. ― Erin Sterling, The Ex Hex Goddess, we beseech you that this man shall never again darken Vivi’s door nor her vagina. ― Erin Sterling, The Ex Hex CBR17 Bingo: Diaspora Diaspora as the witches gather and settle all over the world. It’s a tale as old as time. A young […]

Halloweentown Gets Sexy

The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling

February 26, 2023 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

I don’t typically like romance unless it’s got some other genre along to help build story and character; just the relationship parts gets kind of one note. I picked up The Ex Hex and it’s got enough magic going wrong that it works with the relationship. What I don’t quite get is why/how putting a Welsh magic town in the North Georgia mountains is even slightly believable. I know this is both romance and magic, so it’s not exactly realism forward, btu that’s going too […]

Read too early for Halloween, but the review is in December so who’s counting

The Kiss Curse by Erin Sterling

December 30, 2022 by wicherwill Leave a Comment

This book isn’t quite as fun as the prior in the same series, but I’m glad to see how far Sterling can stretch the premise of her little universe. Here, we follow the cousin of Vivienne of The Ex Hex fame (now happily wifed up with Rhys Penhallow) (or maybe not wifed, but definitely partnered). Gwyn is happy running her quirky witchy store in Graves Glen, the former seat of power of the Penhallow family. Who shows up but another Welsh brother, and since this is Romanlandia, they only […]

Magic is just a plot point for a passionate romance

The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling

August 5, 2022 by Mobius_Walker 1 Comment

BINGO – HEART Vivienne knows better than to mix vodka and witchcraft. She does. But when her cousin recommends a harmless bit of non-magic to curse Rhys, the man who breaks her heart after a wild and passionate summer, she can’t resist. Though she and her cousin Gwen are real witches, they’re aren’t about to do a real piece of magic. It’s mostly a symbolic exercise to help Vivienne move on. Nine years later, Rhys comes back to town to find that things just aren’t […]

“Never mix vodka and witchcraft.”

The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling

February 12, 2022 by faintingviolet 1 Comment

When I started reading this book it wasn’t very far in before I was thinking to myself “hmm… I’m not sure he’s such a bad guy, ladies” as Vivienne is (accidentally) drunkenly hexing her ex, Rhys. This could be a function of any number of things including my age, my own romantic history, the fact that I waited three months on my library’s hold list to get a copy, or the general state of the world. But it did affect my enjoyment because the thing […]
