Squirrel Girl, Squirrel Girl, powers of squirrel and also girl! DOUBLE CANNONBALL (finally)!

November 26, 2017 by Malin 7 Comments

Meet Doreen Green, aka Squirrel Girl. She’s been living in the attic of the Avengers headquarters, but now she’s ready to go to move out and go to college. Accompanied by her trusty squirrel sidekick, Tippy-toe, aka Tippy, she’s ready for the challenges of higher education and keeping her super-identity secret. Her new roommate Nancy Whitehead seems mostly interested in knitting and her kitten Mew. Even before she’s had time to get properly settled, Doreen has to save the campus from Kraven the Hunter, and […]

Squirrels as Superheroes Makes for Nut Puns Galore

February 26, 2017 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

3.5 stars. There’s a lot to like here: girl power, a not super sexy heroine, and a superhero trying to be normal as a college student. Doreen really wants to do the college thing, including boys, clubs, etc. But she’s not doing it to be normal; she just want to know computer science stuff (that would be her major, although I’m not sure why she chose it).  More of this part of her story would be helpful, since a good portion of the book is […]

Squirrel Agility Ability

August 5, 2016 by Emmalita 2 Comments

The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl is an absolute delight. She’s a little bit like Deadpool, if Deadpool still had his innocence and had never been a mercenary. She’s jaunty, clever, irreverent and some one is breaking the 4th wall, though it’s more the author than Squirrel Girl. Squirrel Girl super heroes in her own unique way. She takes down the baddest of the bad and makes friends along the way. Doreen Green is totally just your average, normal girl on her way to start college. She […]

In a World of Gritty Comics, There is Squirrel Girl

October 19, 2015 by Quorren Leave a Comment

And she’s just happy to be here! It’s actually really refreshing to have a superhero that has no twisted past baggage and crippling existential crises.  Of course, if I had to be around Squirrel Girl 24/7, her excessive perkiness would probably grate on my very last nerve.  But after reading some pretty dark comics, I was in the mood for a hero that’s excited to be starting college and wondering how many boxes of nuts is too many boxes of nuts for a dorm room. […]
