Which way the wind blows

Wind Watchers by Micha Archer

Why Does the Wind Blow?: Weather with the Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle

August 29, 2024 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

When I find books that can be “themed” I enjoy writing about them. Even though both of these books were quick reads, they work extremely well with each other by being themed as Wind Books. They work for multiple ages, allowing both books to grow with your child. Wind Watchers by Micha Archer was read via an online reader copy and is due March 2025. This will give me time to read it again, not so much because it was the best book ever, but […]

The very tired child

The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle

April 21, 2021 by enaj Mcbob Leave a Comment

This one is a favourite from my childhood that I had been looking forward to sharing with Toby and we finally got a chance to read it this week.  Sensing an opportunity pre-nap for a quick read, things started off well.  The iconic illustrations took my sister and I straight back to childhood and seemed to entrance Toby to the extent that he sat quietly in my sister’s lap as she turned the pages.  At the halfway point he appeared fully invested but this was […]

The picture book banned for the most ridiculous reason

October 17, 2018 by crystalclear Leave a Comment

I chose this for my “Fahrenheit 451” book purely because of why it was banned.  It was not banned for content like most books. No, the Texas Board of Education banned the colorful storybook due to lack of research.  There’s another Bill Martin, you see, without the Jr., who wrote a book geared toward adults titled Ethical Marxism: The Categorical Imperative of Liberation.  Someone on the board decided that Ethical Marxism may not be the best book to be molding young Texan minds, and so […]

A lighthearted parody of Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar,

August 31, 2018 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

The Very Hungry Pregnant Lady is a spoof of that board book favorite, The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. The spoof aspect can be a bit much sometimes by having the joke “over played” and done too many times. (Yes, I am looking at you Goodnight Moon spoofs). This time, however, the spoof is hilarious. And it would be the perfect baby shower gift (not so much for the child but for the mother herself). However, there is nothing inappropriate, so a child could […]
