I am falling so far behind on reviews it’s time for another grab bag! You may look at this list and say “Wow, Tyler (not my real name), you are all over the place with genres!” To which I reply in my best Scar/Jeremy Irons voice “You have no idea.” I tend to be mercurial with my interests and obsessions and just go wherever the whim takes me. Also whatever I see that looks interesting at the library because we are blessed to have a […]

Fitting Conclusion to a Solid King Story

End of Watch by Stephen King

August 23, 2019 by Jen K Leave a Comment

In the six years since Bill Hodges and his odd ball team thwarted Brady Hartsfield’s attempt to blow up a concert, Bill and Holly have run the agency Finders Keepers, being official partners rather than boss and employee ever since the case in the novel Finders Keepers.  Jerome is taking a semester off from Harvard to work with Habitat for Humanity in Arizona.  Bill has even stopped his regular visits to Hartsfield’s hospital room to check in on the status of the recovery.  In other […]

End of Watch

April 26, 2017 by Mim Leave a Comment

End of Watch.  Once again, I’m sorry to say that there’s not much good to be said about this one.  It’s a real downer, and I waited several weeks after I read it to write this review, because I didn’t want to ruin it for anyone.  Problem is, I also don’t want to have to reread it, and unlike some other books, my head doesn’t want to hold on to it.  My major issues were how irritating it was that King returned to drugging people […]

A good, if a bit predictable, series ender.

August 22, 2016 by narfna Leave a Comment

All in all, this was a good series. This book, like the first two, was compulsively readable (although the second one is by far my favorite of the three). But taken as a whole series, they definitely work together to reinforce each other. The ending of this one had threads that reach all the way back to the first chapter of Mr. Mercedes. End of Watch brings us back to Brady Hartsfield, who has been hospitalized as a “gork” for going on six years now, […]

Damn you, Uncle Stevie. I’m not ready for these books to end.

June 21, 2016 by scootsa1000 Leave a Comment

The adventures of Retired Detective Bill Hodges and his friends have come to an end, and I’m sad. I didn’t expect a whole lot when Uncle Stevie announced that he was working on a trilogy of mystery novels a few years ago. But I adored Mr. Mercedes, and couldn’t wait to find out what happened next. And I really liked 99% of Finders Keepers…it was only that 1% about stupid Brady Hartsfield moving things around with his mind that bugged me. So, I was kind of irked when […]
