There is a lot going on in these books. Makes for good reading.

It is really hard to write about the Hollows books individually.  It would probably be easier if I weren’t marathoning them like all 7 seasons of Buffy, but I am, so it’s hard. If you like urban fantasy, and you haven’t read this series, you should.  The Hollows is an area of alternate universe Cincinnati populated Interlanders – Non-humans or former humans who have emerged into the open after a tomato born plague almost wipes out humanity. There will be spoilers, but I’ll keep them […]

The Moment I Fell in Love (with a series)

October 28, 2014 by Emmalita 12 Comments

Revisting a teen favorite

August 26, 2014 by Emmalita 2 Comments

I read and re-read The Blue Sword (1982) a thousand times as a teen. There weren’t many books for teens with a sword wielding female protagonist. I lost track of the book at some point and forgot the title and the author. Years later the characters would pop into my head, especially once I started reading fantasy fiction again. I found the book again last year in a Pajiba post. The Blue Sword is a fantasy adventure set in a world with a thinly veiled […]

The Illumination of Romance

June 20, 2014 by Emmalita 8 Comments

Within Courtney Milan’s Brothers Sinister series, exist another series of books which chronicle  the improbable adventures of Mrs. Larriger.   The books are generally looked down upon by many of the characters as nonsense at best and a dreadful influence at worst.  As it turns out, the books allow more than one of the characters to escape the confines of their narrow world. That’s what pop culture does, it allows us to escape through entertainment.  Life, even when it’s a life with which we are […]
