“I want my life to be like-like making pottery. I want to enjoy it while it’s happening, not just for where it might get me eventually.”

Happy Place by Emily Henry

October 2, 2023 by narfna Leave a Comment

This was more like People We Meet on Vacation than it was Book Lovers or Beach Read, so it’s not my super fave. But I love Emily Henry’s style so this still gets four stars. This is a second chance romance where most of the characters are unaware our main pair has even broken up. Their very close friend group does a shared vacation every year at a sentimental place, and because this is the last year they’ll be able to go there (one friend’s family is selling it) and […]

CBR15 Bingo: Adulthood

Happy Place by Emily Henry

July 22, 2023 by Malin Leave a Comment

4.5 stars CBR15 Bingo: Adulthood 15-word review: Harriet and Wyn broke up months ago, but can’t tell their friends. Sexual tension follows. Official book description: Harriet and Wyn have been the perfect couple since they met in college—they go together like salt and pepper, honey and tea, lobster and rolls. Except, now—for reasons they’re still not discussing—they don’t. They broke up five months ago. And still haven’t told their best friends. Which is how they find themselves sharing a bedroom at the Maine cottage that […]

“There doesn’t need to be a winner and a loser. You just have to care how the other person feels. You have to care more about them than you do about being right.”

Happy Place by Emily Henry

Umm, second chance romance where a couple actually works through their problems, written by an author with a track record of writing fully realized characters and not relying on cheap plot twists? Why are you still here? Just go read it! Plot: Harriet and Wyn have been together for a decade. They’ve gone through university, medical school, and residency together. Only these busy, full years have managed to hide a rot in their relationship. A rot that has permeated everything until it was all that […]

“Just because not everyone gets you doesn’t mean you’re wrong.”

Book Lovers by Emily Henry

April 25, 2023 by Nart 2 Comments

Media reviews are subjective at the best of times, but some books will come to you at precisely the right or wrong time and any hope of objectivity is lost. This is one of those reviews. Plot: Nora is your classic urban bitch. She’s the antagonist in every romance, but especially small town romances. She’s the high maintenance, career driven woman with zero fucks and a killer manicure. There is only one thing outside of work Nora makes time for – her sister, and she’s […]

Book Lovers by Emily Henry

I saw Book Lovers (2022) by Emily Henry in a number of places, including NPR’s Best Books List. It looked like a clever and fun romance novel, and all of the good reviews were encouraging. It was also a nice change of pace and the perfect book to read after the disturbing and depressing School for Good Mothers that I’d just finished. Nora Stephens is a literary agent in New York City. She loves her job, she loves the city, and she loves her younger sister, Libby. Libby also lives […]

Book Indifferencers

Book Lovers by Emily Henry

April 6, 2023 by Halbs Leave a Comment

I’ve previously read/loved Emily Henry’s other books, Beach Reads & People We Meet on Vacation. As you’ll see in that previous review, I love Henry’s writing. And I can’t wait for the movie(s)  of her books to come out! So, believe me when I say that I’m sad that I can’t give this book more stars. Emily Henry is great (and also a fun Instagram follow, by the way). But this one didn’t work for me. Why? I don’t think the romantic co-lead is as […]
