Wilde Mania

December 13, 2017 by Mikki Blu Leave a Comment

This is the first in a new series by Eloisa James, The Wildes of Lindow Castle,  featuring here Lord Alaric Wilde who is the son of the Duke of Lindow.  He isn’t the heir to the title, that honor belongs to his elder brother North after the first son died unexpectedly.  Alaric has been out of the country for several years, traveling and exploring while writing about his adventures.  He’s completely unaware that his books have created a popular persona among the ton, and he’s […]

The Governess is a Lady

April 3, 2017 by Mikki Blu 4 Comments

This book is the third in the Desperate Duchesses by the Numbers, which is kind of a sub-series of Desperate Duchesses.  These books feature the children of the original group, so it can be confusing sometimes if you haven’t read the original series, and even if you have (which I did) and forgotten who is related to whom.  The first book in this series, Three Weeks with Lady X, is one of my all time favorites; the second book wasn’t as good and this one […]

In which Scots are comic relief and snow is the most effective matchmaker

March 3, 2017 by alwaysanswerb 1 Comment

3.5 stars The Lady Most Willing is a 3-for-1 romance brought to you by kidnapping, drafty Scottish castles, and a really egregious plot strumpet*. The charmingly flimsy plot is this: a batty laird wants so much to ensure the succession of his drafty Scottish castle that he kidnaps the most eligible local women during a storm — ensuring their being sufficiently trapped in the castle — with the intention of presenting them to his nephew(? It’s been a few weeks; I forget.) The complications are […]

I Just Can’t Do This Anymore

January 15, 2017 by Emmalita 11 Comments

I did not finish this book. I spent days trying to read My American Duchess and I cannot spend anymore of my life on this. The back 40% can’t possibly save the first 60%. Halfway through this book, I realized I hated the characters and the plot. Shortly after that I realized I hated the author. It starts off as a love triangle with all the tension of over cooked spaghetti. American heiress, Merry Pelford has just accepted the marriage proposal of Cedric Allardyce, the […]

House parties, horses, heroes and hide and seek

April 15, 2016 by Malin 4 Comments

3.5 stars After Hugh Dunne, the Earl of Briarly, was thrown of one of his prized horses and comatose for more than a week, he has come to realise that he needs to get married and sire an heir before it’s too late. As his main interest and preoccupation is his stable and his horses, he doesn’t really have the time or the patience to go to social events like balls and the like. He asks his younger sister Carolyn for help to make a […]

Another American Heiress Invades Britain

April 5, 2016 by Mikki Blu Leave a Comment

Actual rating 2.5 stars, rounding up here.  When I started reading this book, I was hit by a strong sense of deja-vu.  It reminded me so much of ‘Lady Bridget’s Diary’ by Maya Rodale that I just read recently! To compare:  Wealthy American heiress descends on British society, is like a fish out of water and is very outspoken and yet adorably charming?  Check.  Two brothers (in this case twins) – older brother is the titled peer, portrayed as remote, unemotional and does not dance, […]
