The Secret, Book, and Scone Society is a good mystery but maybe not for me

The Secret, Book, and Scone Society by Ellery Adams

January 29, 2020 by pixifer Leave a Comment

The Secret, Book, and Scone Society is a cozy mystery about four women trying to solve a murder in the small town of Miracle Springs, North Carolina. The water from Miracle Springs is reported to have healing powers so people flock to the town. The main character, Nora Pennington, owns the local bookstore and is a “bibliotherapist”. As a bibliotherapist, Nora listens to her customers’ troubles and then prescribes a series of books. If the books are read in the prescribed order, they should help […]

Trying to review a series without spoilers

July 5, 2018 by crystalclear 1 Comment

Murder in the Mystery Suite   I think I’ve found my favorite of Ellery Adams’ series.  Murder in the Mystery Suite is what I was looking for in a clever murder mystery novel.  There is no magic and the romance aspect takes a backseat to the solving of the murder. It’s all more realistic than her other books, in that it theoretically could happen in an only slightly alternate universe.  The way the narrator pronounces certain words can be a bit irksome,  Jane Steward is […]

There’s fiction, and then there’s unbelievable

July 5, 2018 by crystalclear 1 Comment

Ok, so this is my second Ellery James book.  Things started out okay. Then they got weird.  Well, I mean things were a bit implausible all the way through.  Let me give some examples: We begin with our main character, Ella Mae, going home to Georgia after witnessing her husband’s infidelity.  So far, so good. The parts that I don’t get are: she found him boinking the two (reheaded) twins from another apartment in the elevator.  Like, she presses the button and the door opens […]

Not the best, but not the worst either

July 5, 2018 by crystalclear 1 Comment

This is the first book by Ellery Adams that I experienced.  I liked it, well enough to check out some of her other series.  I have to say I enjoyed this much more than some of her other works.  There’s a light touch of magic that’s not too much, and it doesn’t take over the story.   Nora – owns Miracle Books, a bookshop in the small town of Miracle Springs, North Carolina.  She sells new books, used books, coffee, random chotskies (that she labels […]
