What Terrible Men These Are…

Missing Joseph by Elizabeth George

July 24, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Wow. So “Missing Joseph” packs a punch. George really looks at a variety of relationships and in the end you kind of want to go why do women even deal with men? Except in the case of St. James and his wife Deborah where she continues to be the worst. There’s also a look at the mother and child relationship and how those differ with regards to fathers. There is the usual mess with Deborah and honestly that’s the main reason why I dropped this […]

Wonderful Mystery with Hard Looks at the Lives of Wives and Women

For the Sake of Elena by Elizabeth George

July 7, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Wow. I really really liked this one a lot. I have to say that George did a masterful job of peeling off the layers of who murdered Elena Weaver as well as how Lynley has been selfish in his pursuit of Lady Helen. We also get a great look at Havers home life now that her father has passed. Havers struggles with whether she can keep having a neighbor watch her mother or finally have her mother at a home where she can be safe, […]

There was no point to knocking.

The Great Deliverance by Elizabeth George

July 4, 2019 by vel veeter Leave a Comment

CBR 11 Bingo – And So It Begins This is the first book of the Inspecter Lynley series by the writer Elizabeth George. I don’t know this series very much except that there’s something like twenty of these books (for a series that’s about 30 years old all told) and that each of the books is pretty hefty. We begin with the introduction of our two primary characters — Havers, a down and out patrol officer trying to win her way back onto CID after […]

Prequel to Beginning of Series Offered No New Insights

A Suitable Vengeance by Elizabeth George

June 21, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Seriously you guys. I hard shrugged this book throughout. Why George decided to throw out a book that shows events that took place before the first book in the series baffles me. Also there’s just a look at Havers and that’s it. I cannot read a whole book following Lynley and St. James again. My head was done in. Also the casual way that everyone reacted when a character was almost raped just made my jaw drop. Also the plot line following who murdered several people and […]

Almost a Favorite!

Well-Schooled in Murder by Elizabeth George

June 14, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

I really don’t know what to say except this was a very well thought out mystery. Lynley and Havers shine in this one. The why behind the murder made me sad and what made me even more sad is that you see what other ugliness was going on at Bredgar Chambers. The only reason why I didn’t favorite this one is that the Deborah and St. James sub-plot was beyond aggravating. “Well-Schooled in Murder” takes 2 months after the last book in the series. Lynley […]

Fantastic Follow up to Book One!

Payment in Blood by Elizabeth George

June 7, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

I really don’t have much to say except this one was so ridiculously good! I loved everything about the case that Lynley and Havers are called into look at. First, because it actually showed that Lynley had flaws. Two, because it showed Lynley that he was blind to something that was in his face for a long time. Third, because in the end the cases that Lynley and Havers got set on were not connected the way that they and even I as a reader […]
