Double Cannonball with a Bingo twist!

My Boyfriend is a Bear by Pamela Ribon and Cat Farris

Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell

October 26, 2019 by Caitlin_D Leave a Comment

CBR Bingo: Illustrated My Boyfriend is a Bear, Pamela Ribon and Cat Farris (2 Stars) To be honest graphic novels are probably the most “not my wheelhouse” genre for me but since an illustrated book was required for Bingo My Boyfriend is a Bear checks off this square instead. I chose My Boyfriend because it was written by Pamela Ribon and since I am not a comic reader I didn’t want to read the first of a long series I had no intentions to complete. Obviously one has to […]

I’m a Rowell Convert: Bingo #5!

Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell

October 16, 2019 by Ale 1 Comment

Why have I not read Rainbow Rowell until now? Why have I not listened to what everyone in CBR has been saying about Rowell for years? Eleanor & Park is my first foray into Rowell’s writing world, and I now need to consume everything she’s ever written. Both Faintingviolet and Crystalclear are big fans of hers, but as I tend to have a hard time with YA, I’ve steered clear. Which was a MISTAKE! Eleanor & Park is the most perfect story I’ve encountered in […]

Park turned toward the Plexiglas window and waited for a world of suck to hit the fan.

Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell

August 5, 2019 by vel veeter Leave a Comment

I really didn’t know what I was getting into with this one. I listened to the audiobook as I walked and also while I painted the bathroom. Well what happens though is you start getting teary in the most inopportune times. This book is TENDER. That’s the best word I can think of for it: like Eleanor, if you are in sync with the novel, you are on the verge of tears throughout every moment of the novel. It’s very sweet in earnest and honest […]

Never doubt Rainbow.

Emergency Contact by Mary H.K. Choi

June 5, 2019 by scootsa1000 2 Comments

A few weeks ago, while sitting around and browsing Instagram instead of doing whatever I was supposed to be doing, I saw a post from Rainbow Rowell talking about a book coming out soon from an author that she loves, and mentioned Emergency Contact. I hadn’t heard of it before, and Rainbow claimed was  her favorite book of 2018! Rainbow went on and on, talking about how excited she was for the new book and how much she loved EC, and I just said WHAT […]

And when Eleanor smiled, something broke inside of him. Something always did.

CBR10Bingo: Home Sweet Home Growing up in Nebraska, Willa Cather was required reading. I loved loved loved My Ántonia in junior high, but I soured on her after reading O Pioneers! and hating the bummer of a preachy ending. When I first saw the Home Sweet Home square, I thought I might have to give one of her other books a try until I remembered I have a new favorite Nebraska author, thanks to CBR: Rainbow Rowell!  Eleanor & Park went right to my wishlist […]

I Wasn’t As Attached As I Wanted to be…but as I wrote the review, I found that I was

April 6, 2017 by Melina 4 Comments

I’ve realized that I’m an odd sort of Rainbow Rowell fan.  I liked Eleanor and Park ok-enough. I think I liked the idea of it more than the execution of it.  I embraced the nostalgia of the time and of first love but it’s not really a book that I’ll revisit…nor do I ever recommend it to my friends (that’s telling to me).  I know that this is blasphemy in these parts and I apologize.  But I liked Eleanor and Park enough to read Landline…and […]
