The zombie apocalypse will be televised

Blackout (Newsflesh #3) by Mira Grant

July 15, 2019 by TheShitWizard Leave a Comment

The final part of the Newsflesh trilogy is a fitting end, even if it didn’t quite hit the exciting heights of the series opener. It’s going to be really hard to review this one without dropping a couple of major spoilers for this and the previous books, so if you haven’t already read them, click away now… SPOILERS BELOW… We rejoin the surviving members of our team with them in hiding with the doc, catching her live zombies for her to experiment with and exposing […]

“How foolish we were, to act as gods.”

Your One & Only by Adrianne Finlay

June 2, 2019 by cosbrarian Leave a Comment

For 300 years, there have been no humans on earth – at least not as we know them. As it became clear that the human race wouldn’t survive the Slow Plague, scientists formed an initiative to save humans by creating our survivors in a lab. Nine perfect humans were created – homo factus – and they were cloned and continue to be, creating the new society that now inhabit the earth.  Each of the three communities left on Earth maintains a society of 900 humans, […]

When you’re dead sober and the penguin, cat and ghost-grasshopper are talking to you

Entropy by Aaron Costain

April 29, 2019 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

If you liked Entropy by Aaron Costain , this review is not for you. Entropy is the kind of book you want to read, probably should read, but when you do read, you have NO idea what is going on. Yet, since you want to be “part of the cool crowd” you will say how wonderful and marvelous it is. I am not ashamed to say, “I do not get it.” Actually, let me backtrack, I understand the different creation myths are being spoken about […]

“War eats the victors last.”

Iron Gold (Red Rising #4) by Pierce Brown

February 25, 2019 by alwaysanswerb Leave a Comment

The Red Rising series continues to be incredibly compelling and well-written, though I admit that I was concerned about Iron Gold. I had read that extending beyond the original trilogy wasn’t part of Pierce Brown’s original plan, so I wasn’t sure if this was going to be a reflection of an author caught in the vortex of a world they’d created, but lacking the clear vision of the first phase of books. What became clear was that the story beginning with Iron Gold IS going […]

Rolling in with a late Cannonball on a hate read

December 21, 2018 by alwaysanswerb 5 Comments

So, about three weeks before starting Red Queen, I finished a book called Morning Star, the final book of Pierce Brown’s Red Rising trilogy. That series was about a class of humans called Reds who had been born into slavery, in a society that coded humans by color and where each color was assigned a particular role in Society, with Golds on top. The protagonist, Darrow, infiltrated the Golds with the aim of initiating a revolution that would hopefully lead to a more equal society. […]

Heckin’ Yes – The Power

December 14, 2018 by cheerbrarian Leave a Comment

Post-apocalyptic fiction is my my favorite genre. I am also on a kick of reading rocking female authors. Also, I love Margaret Atwood, and she mentored Alderman and has mentioned this book as one to read. Soooo, post-apocalyptic fiction with Margaret Atwood’s seal of approval should be a slam dunk for my tastes, and oh, it certainly was. In Alderman’s world, “the power” is a muscle across the collarbone of young women that allows them to send out electric shocks to animal, vegetable, or mineral. […]
