I liked it, even though it could use more dragons

A Natural History of Dragons, A Memoir by Lady Trent by Marie Brennan

October 1, 2022 by KimMiE" Leave a Comment

CBR BINGO: Monster, because there be dragons in here! BINGO: Rec’d, Monster, Verse, Bird, Time First of all, I love this image on the cover. The idea of a naturalist who studies dragons is appealing to me, as someone who a) enjoys naturalist memoirs and b) enjoys fantasy. The marriage of science and fantasy appeals to my nature, and I was very excited to read this book. And, I enjoyed it. But I didn’t love it as I hoped. A Natural History of Dragons is […]

When Women Were Dragons by Kelley Barnhill

July 28, 2022 by kfishgirl 7 Comments

I think this is my first ever Cannonball book that I DID NOT FINISH.  I saw this book somewhere (I legit have no idea where), and it caught my eye because the main character is named Alex Green, and also duh – dragons.  My cousin who lives in Arizona who just left Pennsylvania after visiting our entire family is named Alex Green.  I was pumped when I read the plot too. Whoo boy.  I borrowed this audiobook from the library, and I was so excited […]

Spirits and animals of the immortals and two tough girls

Sea of Shadows by Kelley Armstrong

Empire of Night by Kelley Armstrong

Forest of Ruin by Kelley Armstrong

July 28, 2022 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

I can’t remember how I found this trilogy, but I borrowed this first book from my library as an audiobook.  The narrator had an awesome voice and read the story really well.  It’s amazing how a narrator can make a book so much more enjoyable. Anyway, I LOVED this series. We start out visiting a group of prisoners who are being banished / exiled to the forest of the dead.  We’re not really sure what that means, but we know it’s bad.  Ronin is the […]

Tiny Monster Big Ol’ Heart

Anzu the Great Kaiju V01 by Benson Shum

June 7, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Looking around for fun reads I found Anzu the Great Kaiju V01. At first, I was not sure if Benson Shum’s creation would be fun, but the cover had potential. And after reading, I decided that yes, Shum’s book was fun. We follow a tiny monster that is a Kaiju. When they come of age, they get their own city to terrorize. Their own city that they can unleash their own, unique, special talent. And Anzu comes from a long line proud monsters. They can […]

Aerin-sol, Dragon-Killer

The Hero and the Crown by Robin McKinley

April 24, 2022 by Pooja 4 Comments

In Damar once there was a princess called Aerin who was pitifully out of place, for she was the daughter of a woman who had long been branded a witch. With a vague sense that her destiny lay elsewhere compared to where a princess’s destiny generally lies, she set out to become the best dragon slayer the realm had seen, no matter that killing dragons was a thankless and ignoble task. But it turns out her destiny was far greater than that. I remember I […]

A voyage of outcasts.

Dragon Haven (The Rain Wild Chronicles, #2) by Robin Hobb

March 29, 2022 by narfna Leave a Comment

Ultimately, I decided not to round up on this one because this book (and this series so far) just doesn’t cut as deep as previous Hobb books have for me, though it made some really good progress on that, hence the 4.5 star rating. This is basically part two in what should have been one book, but was split into two for various reasons. This provided all the fulfillment I felt lacked after finishing the first book, and this book is actually where we start […]
