I apologise in advance, because this review is going to be so full of spoilers. I am so shocked with this I can’t even come up with words to explain this. The hypocrisy of it all is just threatening to suffocate me. And I need some help to decide whether I should go on. Just a little context: a bit over 10 years ago, my mother lent me this book to read, but as I am not a big fan of translations if I can […]
“Oh, aye, Sassenach. I am your master . . . and you’re mine. Seems I canna possess your soul without losing my own.”
So one of my goals for CBR this year is to go through the Outlander series again (which I’ve read through several times over the last decade), this time exclusively on audiobook. The first book is the shortest, and clocks in at 32 hours — so I have a feeling this is going to take a good amount of time. It’s a wonderful listening experience though, especially if you enjoy the accents, which I do! So if you’re not familiar with the story of Outlander: our hero […]
Guys, have any of you ever had an arepa? Please tell me about it in the comments if so. Thank you in advance.
HOKAY SO. I have now made it through seven books of this series, which is basically like twenty-one normal-sized books, or fourteen above average-sized ones. By the time she finally finishes this series, we might be talking Wheel of Time-level word counts here. All this to say I HAVE DONE HARD WORK, NOW GIVE ME TACOS. I was going to type “cookies”, but dammit I really want some tacos right now. Also, on the last Jane the Virgin episode, I was introduced to the concept […]
The book that would never end.
This book covers the adventures of the extended Fraser-McKenzie clan through the years 1772-1776, and oh God, you feel every one of them. I picked up this book in late August 2015. I just finished it last week. For those of you as bad at math as I am, that is NINE MONTHS. I coulda grown a whole baby in the time it took me to read this book. If I was a cat, maybe dozens of babies. A rabbit . . . at least a […]
Finally, fulfilling fanfic fantasy for fans
Katie: As usual, Patty is dragging me kicking and screaming into a read of something I find questionable. In this case, it’s Finding Fraser by KC Dyer, which is an homage of sorts based on the incomparable James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser from Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander saga. I didn’t see how this could possibly be a good idea. Patty: How could having a PERFECT opportunity to use JAMMF images be a bad idea? Katie: Our heroine read Outlander while in high school and fell in love […]
I have succumbed to the world of Outlander
It’s hard to exist in a reader world and not be at least obliquely aware of Outlander, Diana Gabaldon’s epic series – currently 8 books and counting, not including the companion novels and novellas. Best I can recollect, I gave serious consideration to embarking on this series around the time of fellow Cannonballers embarking on rereads in preparation for the publication of book 8, and the release of the show based on the books on Starz last spring. I made the decision once I asked […]
