Forced to join the yearbook club was the least of his problems

Fearbook Club by Richard Ashely Hamilton

June 12, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I read R. L. Stine (Fear Street), Christopher Pike, Ritchie Cusick, etc, as a teen. Those teen thriller/horror stories that were fun, not overly serious, bit of romance, but had a bit of ghosts and ghouls and always a climax where the villains are unmasked (sometimes literally, sometimes figuratively). And when I was reading Fearbook Club, I figured this must be the younger versions of those authors. Maybe a more humorous Goosebumps. Richard Ashely Hamilton made a story that was (as I said) a fun […]

A Year in the Life

Grandpa and the Kingfisher by Anne Wilson

May 31, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I have recently read several titles with grandparents recently. One of those books was Grandpa and the Kingfisher. Been there done that (and been doing that for about three years now with a robin family that has taken to nesting on the porch. And pooping on my turtle statue). However, I then thought, okay I know this but would it work for a child? Maybe, […]

Two different books creating feelings

I'll Be the Water: A Story of a Grandparent's Love by Alec Aspinwall

Crying is Like the Rain: A Story of Mindfulness and Feelings by Heather Feinberg

November 4, 2020 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Two interesting books, but not enough for me to find the word limit for each solo, therefor I am going to do “two books one review” for these little numbers. The connection I find with both titles is that they both have a somber theme and/or feeling to them. I’ll Be the Water: A Story of Loss, Greif, and a Grandparent’s Love is obviously about the loss of a beloved grandparent. However, it is also a hopeful story. We see all the wonderful things that […]
