Ain’t no mountain high enough

Devoted by Dean Koontz

March 28, 2021 by katie71483 Leave a Comment

I feel like I should preface this review with an admission: I was predisposed to love Devoted by Dean Koontz. His earlier novel, Watchers, is one of my all-time faves, and this one is similar in subject matter: a golden retriever who is more than he appears to be is up against a monstrous experiment gone wrong in a battle of good versus evil. Circling back to my predisposition to love this newer novel, my family has always had dogs. One of them was the […]

What a Letdown

Memories of Tomorrow by Dean Koontz

November 15, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

I got nothing much to say besides what a letdown this was. I think that Koontz could have done a better job with this collection if he slowly revealed things about Nameless or showed prior flashes or even explained how he was clairvoyant and had the ability to just say what time he wanted to wake up and woke up. Instead the final reveal was a letdown because you could guess at a good 75 percent of what was coming. “Memories of Tomorrow” has Nameless […]

Disappointment Sets In

The Mercy of Snakes by Dean Koontz

November 15, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Spoilers for events from Nameless #1, “In the Heart of the Fire”. Had to go to the gym to workout, which was a welcome break from this series. Honestly this is just boring. At this point what is the purpose of Nameless. The guy barely does anything. He does kill someone in this story, but other than that, why would someone need to have amnesia to do this. His “powers” are not in play in this one either. We hear more about the purple blue […]

Another Story About Fire

Red Rain by Dean Koontz

November 15, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

This one read as filler to me. We have even more repetitiveness regarding Nameless and the woman and two kids he keeps seeing. I hope that the next two do a bit better than this. “Red Rain” has Nameless in a city that sounds like Chicago. He visits a woman who was left disfigured after someone set a fire that also killed her two children. Nameless asks her does she want the men responsible to die and she decides that she does. He quickly starts […]

When Superstition and Murder Meet

The Praying Mantis Bride by Dean Koontz

November 15, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Well this one was a surprise. We have Nameless taking out a black widow. And honestly this one was more delightful than the other two. Probably because of that ending and also the superstitious stuff that Lucia (the black widow) and her mother believed in like carrying an acorn to stop aging, stepping on ants causes rain, etc. Once again though I have to say that Nameless doesn’t feel needed here. “The Praying Mantis Bride” has Nameless on a special mission. A man that was […]

Waking the Dead

Photographing the Dead by Dean Koontz

November 15, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

This one was just okay too. I think I am getting a bit disappointed since Nameless doesn’t really need to go toe to toe with the bad guys. They end up caught, he with help disposes of them. We get some clues to his past in this one. I wish all of the bad guys didn’t have some weird God complex. The first two in this series sound similar. “Photographing the Dead” has Nameless hunting down another serial killer. This one gets off by photographing […]
