Summer Lovin

Foxglove Summer by Ben Aaronovitch

February 6, 2025 by Singsonggirl 2 Comments

The adventure continues! I don’t remember when I stuck with a series for this long, but this is the fifth book and I’m still very much into it! This time the overarching story with the Faceless Man takes a backseat and Peter Grant is sent to the countryside to investigate the mysterious disappearance of two little girls. Nightingale conveniently has to stay back in London to guard Varvara Sidorovna, making room for another competent partner at Peter’s side: Beverly Brook, river goddess and love interest […]

Broken Towers

Broken Homes by Ben Aaronovitch

January 5, 2025 by Singsonggirl Leave a Comment

First of all, I’m really happy to be back and looking forward to doing this this year! My reading outside of work has been abysmal lately, so I’ve decided to join Cannonball Read again to have more motivation. The one thing that worked last year, despite the general slacking off, were audiobooks, or better, one series of audiobooks: I’ve fallen into the Rivers of London series and the combination of Ben Aaronovitch’s writing and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith’s voice acting is just excellent. I’ve just finished the […]

Amongst Our Weapons by Ben Aronovitch

Slow Horses by Mick Herron

Once again, I am unhappy because I am all caught up in the Rivers of London universe. BUT- I thoroughly enjoyed this entry, and I was lucky enough to be able to dive right in to another irreverent British crime series! Amongst Our Weapons, the latest from Ben Aaronovitch, is a return to form. After the strange (but not entirely off-putting) Douglas Adams worship of False Value we have returned to the archaic and architectural weirdness of the rest of the Rivers of London series. It has […]

*record scratch* you’re probably wondering how I ended up in this situation

False Value by Ben Aaronovitch

February 11, 2021 by andtheIToldYouSos Leave a Comment

well, not me per say- but DC Peter Grant. There was a good deal of magic AND non-magic kerfuffle at the end of Lies Sleeping. Peter, Lesley, Chorley, and the Nightingale himself were all thrown into the process of red tape and blue lines. I read Lies Sleeping back in September of last year, and then stopped dead in the ROL-iverse except for a short story here or there. False Value was available, but no way in hell was I about to mess up my matching set […]
