Weird and Sweet

Cat Lady by Dawn O'Porter

November 9, 2024 by ASKReviews Leave a Comment

Best for: Folks who like stories about women who society can’t quite place. A little bit like Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, but different. In a nutshell: Mia is married to Tristan, stepmother to Oliver, and deals with Tristan’s ex wife Belinda on a daily basis. She is an executive at a very small business, and has started attending a pet grief support group. Only issue: her beloved cat Pigeon is very much still alive. Worth quoting: “There must be so much freedom when you […]

DNF @ 42% I can’t believe I’m actually doing this, and for this book, but I just can’t do it anymore. The cover says it was a bestseller, but I’m having a hard time believing that. “You don’t have to tell me you’re fine. I’m not fine. You’re not fine either. We can be honest with each other about that, can’t we?’

Bingo Square: Nostalgia (set in 1994, when I was 13) Flo is fifteen years old and living on the small British island of Guernsey, just off the coast of France. Flo’s parents have recently separated and she lives with her mum, sister and brother. Her best friend, Sally, is mostly mean to Flo, constantly putting her down and often flirts (badly) with Flo’s brother, Julian. Flo does well in school and mostly keeps her head down. Renee is in the same year but a world […]

No one’s life is perfect

So Lucky by Dawn O'Porter

From the outside, these women look like they have it all together. Beth is running her own wedding planning business and has a wonderful husband who is taking time off work to look after their four month old son while she finishes up her latest celebrity shindig; Ruby is forthright and intimidating, and Lauren is about to marry one of the wealthiest men in the country. But Beth’s husband is repulsed by her and they haven’t had sex since they conceived their son. Ruby is […]
