After Watching Logan This Weekend…Perfect Balm for All Those Feelings

March 6, 2017 by Classic Leave a Comment

If you haven’t watched the movie Logan yet, look away! The character we follow in this All New Wolverine issue is Laura. We get to see her as she steps up to be the new Wolverine, while still being mentored by our Logan (who is now gone). In this first issue, we see that Laura has doubts about who she is and what she is doing. She feels like a monster and just a killing machine. When she gets knocked out, she apparently gets some […]

Didn’t really see what the fuss is about

Carol Danvers, who is apparently a hot-shot pilot and one of the Avengers, lives in the crown of the Statue of Liberty (you can do that?) with her sister and niece. When the Avengers find an escape pod from a spaceship with an alien refugee inside it, they decide that Carol be the one to return the girl to her homeworld, as well as take up a more permanent presence in space as a representative for the Avengers Initiative. As she returns the girl to […]

Proud member of the Carol Corps, checking in for duty, sir.

Okay, first of all I just want to say that Secret Wars seems like an unholy mess. I shouldn’t have to spend thirty minutes on Wikipedia reading up about a bunch of crazy shit just to enjoy my Carol Danvers, dammit. I mean, did ANYONE read all the Secret Wars stuff? If so, did you understand all of it? Because that page makes it sound terrible. As for the comic itself, once I got the gist of the background, it was actually pretty great! Basically […]

Goodbye, Kelly Sue. We hardly knew ye.

In case you’re curious, and too lazy to Google it, “Alis Volat Propriis” is Latin for “she flies with her own wings.” I think that’s lovely. It’s a lovely phrase, and it’s a lovely sentiment to end Kelly Sue DeConnick’s run on Captain Marvel. That said, man, I’m just not thrilled with the way this whole thing has turned out. I read Higher, Further, Faster, More earlier this year, and absolutely fell in love with it, and with Carol Danvers. Everything that has come after […]

Carol Danvers is my hero.

– – – Meet Carol Danvers. She used to be a pilot, but after the explosion of a Kree device gifted her with alien powers, now she’s an Avenger who lives in the top of the Statue of Liberty and makes out with Iron Patriot on the side. She’s the kind of gal who takes her cat into space. She loves Star Wars and punching people. We have only just met, but I love her. Even before I really got into the story, I was […]
