A Great Daredevil Story, Unfortunately Out of Print

Daredevil by Mark Waid Omnibus #1 by Mark Waid, Paolo Rivera, Chris Samnee, Marcos Martin, Javier Rodriguez

February 16, 2022 by GentleRain Leave a Comment

I love Daredevil and I really enjoyed Mark Waid’s run when it was coming out. I’d wanted to get the trade edition for a while, but the price had put me off. The value for money here is iffy for the casual reader, especially as the book is now out of print. I got a decent deal on eBay (originally retailed for $100, I got it for $119 vs the $130-150 it’s going for on Amazon), and I had wanted this for years so it was […]

Two Comics and a Horror

Paper Girls, Vol. 1 by Brian K. Vaughn, et al.

Daredevil: Born Again by Frank Miller and Dave Mazzucchelli

'Salem's Lot by Stephen King

November 4, 2021 by Jake Leave a Comment

Read two comics and re-read a horror classic. All good in their various ways, two not living up to the potential of greatness and one with said potential… Paper Girls, Volume 1 A lot of folks warned that this one would be confusing but being a huge “Saga” fan, I was willing to give Brian K. Vaughn the benefit of the doubt. And it paid off. It’s a good table setter for what promises to be a good story. I liked the characters and, I’ve […]

Why is Frank Miller so Beloved?

September 6, 2017 by Emmalita 3 Comments

I didn’t like this. At all. I think I’ve reached the point in reading comic books and graphic novels where I have definite opinions. I haven’t delved into the history of comic books. I’m sure that there is a reason that Frank Miller is revered, but I haven’t figured out what it is yet. Daredevil: The Man Without Fear would put me off Daredevil if I weren’t already watching the Netflix series. The volume is mostly narrated with occasional breaks for conversation between characters. I […]

The Man Without a Story

July 26, 2016 by jeverett15 1 Comment

I keep trying with comic books and I think I may stop soon. (Although I have another review of one coming right up.) Something about the medium doesn’t work for me. I wanted to try a Daredevil comic because I really enjoyed the Netflix series. After looking into it, the Frank Miller run seemed like a good place to start. The problem with this volume is that it is only a start. Across the issues collected here, the only thing that really happens is the […]

Daredevil Season 3?

April 1, 2016 by Halbs 2 Comments

I have to preface this review by saying that Daredevil is on my Mount Rushmore of comic characters. He’s my guy. By day I’m an attorney and a person of faith, so I’m really into Matt Murdock’s worldview and how he wrestles with the balance of law, God, and justice. (If anyone cares, my other favorites are Moon Knight, Batman, and Booster Gold.) In a recent discussion of Netflix’ Daredevil series, someone online recently nudged me to Frank Miller’s Born Again, which collects  a story arc […]

Season three of Daredevil?

December 31, 2015 by Malin Leave a Comment

Like so many others, I was a huge fan of the first season of the Netflix series Daredevil. I decided that the time had come to look at some source material. In what could easily become season three of the series, Karen Page, Matt Murdock’s former legal secretary and ex-girlfriend is down on her luck in Mexico. After a failed porn career, she’s now a heroin junkie and she sells Matt’s secret identity as Daredevil for her next fix. The name falls into criminal mastermind […]
