“And they all liv’d together in a little crooked house.”

Crooked House by Agatha Christie

March 15, 2023 by narfna Leave a Comment

Ooh, I got really into this one. It’s been a month since I’ve finished so I’ve had some time to think (though I do of course wish I’d written the review right away, but alas) and I think the reason that I loved this one so much is that it’s one of the few non-detective mystery novels to get the mystery part right and have it be believable. A lot of the time, as a mystery fan when encountering books with non-detective main characters, there […]

Crooked House by Agatha Christie

In this standalone novel, we meet a young British spy who falls in love with an heiress in a British/Greek family, whose grandfather is a restaurant magnate who might also be some kind of power player in Greek politics. They meet, they fall in love, and then are separated by the various fates of war. When Charles see a notice that the grandfather has died, he sends a note to his former love, who contacts him and suggests that she thinks he was actually murdered. […]

Family Matters

As much as I loved the ending, I came away thinking this should have been much better than it was. Aside from a few standalone works, the most famous being And Then There Were None (still my favorite of hers), Agatha Christie is mostly known for her two famous detectives Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple. I imagine she probably got bored of writing for them (I almost certainly know this was true of Poirot) so on this one, she decided to venture out on her own. […]

There Was a Crooked Man…

March 1, 2017 by Classic Leave a Comment

Honestly I don’t have that much to say here besides the fact that I really really love this book. This was one of Agatha Christie’s favorite books and I can see why. There are a lot of twists and turns and I thought I figured out the perpetrator, but per usual, I was wrong. “Crooked House” follows the character of Charles Hayward, as he goes about investigating who could have murdered his potential fiance’s (Sophia) grandfather, Mr. Aristide Leonides. Christie sets up the book so […]
