Not my kind of cozy

Address to Die For (Maggie McDonald Mystery #1) by Mary Feliz

January 19, 2021 by Essie Dubs 4 Comments

The first book in the Maggie McDonald Mystery series by Mary Feliz, Address to Die For, landed in my Kindle via a search for “cozy mystery” on the DC Public Library catalog. I was hoping to find a new series for my pandemic read-fest, and the Maggie McDonald books were well reviewed on both Goodreads and Amazon. The description sounded promisingly cozy, too: Maggie McDonald and her family move into a century-old house they recently inherited, where there’s an old barn out back, plenty of […]

Rambling but charming cozy

Manna From Hades by Carola Dunn

January 5, 2021 by pixifer Leave a Comment

I love Carola Dunn’s Daisy Dalrymple series, so I thought I’d check out her Cornish mystery series. Sadly, the first book, Manna from Hades, can’t compare. It’s the 1960s and Eleanor Trewynn is an elderly widow living Cornwall. Eleanor and her husband spent years traveling the world for the charity LonStar, and after he passed she opened a LonStar charity shop in her hometown. Eleanor enjoys being back in England and living so close to her niece Megan, who was recently promoted to a Detective […]

A cozy mystery for coffee geeks

On What Grounds by Cleo Coyle

December 25, 2020 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

I decided for a change of pace with On What Grounds by Cleo Coyle, the first Coffeehouse mystery. I like coffee, but I really like humorous pun book titles even more. I also LOVE me some cozy mysteries. I’m patiently waiting for the Christmas romances to disappear and the return of Hallmark mystery marathons. They are a balm to the soul whether on screen or the page. I like how the mystery tends to be solved swiftly and how easily I can devour the pages. […]

A Red Herring without Mustard by Alan Bradley

Someone on the Cannonball Read book chat asked recently for recommendations for when you just can’t focus due to various life stressors. Having gone through a similar phase myself, I recommended cozy mysteries as the genre I find easy to read when I can’t concentrate on much else. I picked up The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie when I was in Pennsylvania on a family emergency, and I decided to go ahead and read the next couple in the series (#2 The Weed […]
