This affected me so much more this time around

April 14, 2018 by Malin Leave a Comment

This is my first re-read of this book. My original review can be found here. With the other two books in The Turners series, I have re-read the books more than once over the years. I read Unclaimed back in 2011 and haven’t revisited it since. Until now. While I would still rank it as the weakest of the three books in the trilogy, that is only really because one of the books has to come in third place. In my memory, Mark and Jessica’s story wasn’t as engrossing and […]

Revisiting an old favourite

March 2, 2018 by Malin Leave a Comment

4.5 stars A long time ago now, back in April 2011, I first discovered Courtney Milan as an author, having read favourable things about her on various romance review blogs. My original review of this book, can be found here. Fondly as I remember Ash and Margaret’s story, this is not the Turner series book I’ve revisited most often. According to my records, I’ve only re-read it once before, back in 2012, so I was very interested to see if it was as good as I remembered. I […]

❤️🍲👠

I reviewed Hold Me when it first came out, I even put it on my best books of 2016 list. I’m reviewing it again because it deserves all the reviews, you should read it, and I have more to say about it. When they first meet, Jay is an asshole to Maria. He makes assumptions based on her appearance and then refuses to back down, even when he knows he is being an ass. Maria has the confidence to stand up to Jay and dish it […]

Revisiting a true favourite at Christmas time

December 27, 2017 by Malin 4 Comments

When Lydia Charingford was fifteen, she was seduced and ruined by an older man. She got pregnant, and it was only through the quick wits of her friend Minnie and the support of her family that not everyone in polite society found out about it. Lydia lost the baby, and tries very hard not to dwell on that part of her past. When Dr Jonas Grantham (the junior doctor present when she was being examined and her shame was exposed to her parents) returns to […]

An Ideal Set in Motion is a Dangerous Thing

October 24, 2017 by Emmalita 2 Comments

The United States has never lived up to it’s stated ideals of equality and freedom. It hasn’t even always struggled towards those ideals. Right now, there is a strong push to move backwards. The resistance to moving towards a white supremacist, patriarchal land of the wealthy is also strong. Rose Learner, Courtney Milan, and Alyssa Cole have fired their own shots in the beautiful short story collection, Hamilton’s Battalion: A Trio of Romances. We make a lot of arguments about diversity and representation, but it […]

Trading Places for New Adults

February 9, 2017 by Classic 10 Comments

I read this for Romance Book Bingo: Interracial couple square.  I feel really bad about this, but Courtney Milan’s foray into New Adult Contemporary is not my jam. I almost DNFed this book a couple of times while reading. The two protagonists were not compelling or believable as a couple. The main plot about two 20 year old college students trading lives for a couple of weeks was all over the place. I think the amount of sub-plots also hindered the overall story too. Tina […]
