Episode 1-12: I See Your True Colors Shining Through

March 25, 2018 by prisco Leave a Comment

https://killingmykindle.com/2018/03/26/episode-1-12-i-see-your-true-colors-shining-through/ Wherein I review: 39. Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson 40. The Stainless Steel Rat Goes to Hell (Stainless Steel Rat #9) by Harry Harrison What began as my least favorite Cosmere book quickly climbed back up in my esteem.  It’s the magics I didn’t care much for it this one, but the characters grew on me.  And the Stainless Steel Rat was less delightful as he multiverse hops.

Episode 1-09: Rats! Foiled Again!

March 4, 2018 by prisco Leave a Comment

In this episode, I further dive into the Stainless Steel Rat space opera, where a slick space criminal experiences 1970’s style hijinks.  I finish up the YA books written by the author of the Cemetery of Forgotten Books author – all of them involving kids fighting some kind of devilish dealing evil power.  And I leap back to the beginning to dip my toes in the Cosmere and ponder how Avengers: Infinity War shit’s gonna get when he finally merges all his shardfolk.

We can work it out

The Elantris of the title was once a glorious city full of luminous beings with astounding powers that drew devotees and dependents alike. But the prologue tells us that Elantris abruptly fell, its power vanishing and its residents transforming from near gods to withered and powerless outcasts. The book picks up ten years after this disaster. The ensuing political upheaval and civil war has settled into a precarious peace and wobbly feudal system. The Shaod, the blight that struck Elantris, still occasionally and suddenly afflicts […]

Three books in a row, this series continues to be ridiculously good.

December 30, 2017 by narfna Leave a Comment

It has never before taken me longer than a week to read a Brandon Sanderson book, and that’s including the previous two 1,000+ page behemoths in this series. But it took me almost three weeks to get through Oathbringer. This more than anything is proof that reading a book fast does not necessarily mean that it’s good, and reading one slowly doesn’t mean you don’t enjoy it. That’s a new thing for me. Usually I inhale books like I do my food, fast and without mercy. […]
