Thank You Cannonballers!

Rated 5 heart eyes I asked for recommendations on the Cannonball Read Facebook page for a romance with humor, good chemistry between the main characters, and a good plot. The Hating Game was described as “hilarious and quirky and perfect.” I read it and loved it so much. Definitely a book where I was staying up later than I should be reading because I wanted more. Lucy and Joshua are both assistants to the CEOs of two publishing companies that merged together. Lucy is sweet […]

Light escapism, and a lot of fun

March 12, 2017 by Ellepkay 2 Comments

Beth Ellen was kind enough to lend me this one and it was a lovely break from all the historicals I’ve been reading.  Not nearly as good as the books I’ve read in her Amour et Chocolat series, but fun escapism. Violette Lenoir is the head chef at a 2 star Michelin restaurant.  She is only in her late 20s and has been working towards this goal for over 10 years.  She is very tough and no nonsense (you can tell this because she wears […]

Exit, pursued by snickering hound.

March 8, 2017 by Emmalita 14 Comments

I was not prepared for how much I enjoyed this book. At all. And I liked Act Like It, but Pretty Face was even better. I must admit that I hate Lucy Parker’s titles. They are not at all indicative of the witty writing and wry, wonderful characters inside. I picked it up to browse the first couple of pages and the I couldn’t put it down. I read while my sinuses threw yet another mucus festival. I read while I walked the dog. I […]

Good at Games

March 8, 2017 by Classic Leave a Comment

I will have to come back and think of a pithy title for this review some other time. For now, I am just going to go with the title of the book. I honestly don’t have much to say about this book besides finding it boring as sin and also very rage inducing at times. I do love my romance reads, but from the beginning I found the whole premise of this book a bit hard to take. It made me think of a grown […]

A Dude Born Anew

Learning to Feel by N.R. Walker

March 2, 2017 by Mrs. Julien 3 Comments

Short Version: Learning to Feel is a fairly traditional contemporary romance that passed the time, but N.R. Walker’s plotting choices struck me as a bit much. Long Version: In a moment of common sense and self-preservation, sad-sack Nathan leaves his job as an ER doctor in Boston, to take a role in rural Maine. It’s a contract position that he hopes will get his life on track, help him work less, and it includes free rent on a farmhouse. When Nathan arrives, he finds a […]

The Puppy That Eats Your Favourite Shoes

Good Boy by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy

February 28, 2017 by Mrs. Julien 2 Comments

When the hero of Good Boy was introduced in Us, I referred to him as the World’s Largest Plot Moppet.  I was wrong, clearly he is the world’s biggest puppy. I have seen very mixed reviews of this contemporary romance as there are troubling elements at the same time as it is also frequently charming. YMMV, as the kids today say. Blake Riley and Jessie Canning hooked up several months ago and while it was mutually satisfying, she isn’t looking for more. Brought together again […]
