Simply put, Evelyn Abbey is my former almost-girlfriend-turned-archnemesis-turned-tentative ally whom I would now very much like to permanently seduce

July 5, 2017 by Malin 3 Comments

4.5 stars Carter Aaron and Evelyn “Evie” Abbey (nicknamed Evil by Carter shortly after their first meeting due to her nefarious and wicked laugh) meet at an early Halloween party. They seem to be the only single people in a sea of couples, and both drift towards a corner of the room away from the “marrieds”, discovering that they coincidentally both came in Harry Potter costumes. Hitting it off instantly, their enthusiasm towards one another wanes a bit when they find out they are both […]

The movie with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie is better

3.5 stars From Goodreads: Fisher Braun knows how to keep a secret. As a covert paramilitary operative, his job – and his life – depends on it. He’s at the top of his game, ready for action and always in control. No enemy has ever brought him to his knees, but one lover has: Zachary Allen, the man currently sharing his bed. The perfect package of brains and brawn, Zach is someone worth coming home to, and Fisher hates keeping him in the dark about […]

The girl in the bubble and the boy in black

June 24, 2017 by Malin Leave a Comment

3.5 stars Madeleine has never left her house or been outside. She’s got a rare auto-immune disorder and lives in a house hermetically sealed, with special filters making sure nothing gets in that could hurt her. The only people she sees regularly are her mother, whose a doctor, and her nurse, Carla. On very special occasions, when he’s been decontaminated thoroughly, she’s allowed to meet one of her favourite tutors, but Madeline’s life is lived mostly vicariously through books and the internet, dreaming of the […]

North to You, by Tif Marcelo

Making out in the food truck is definitely a code violation

June 16, 2017 by J Leave a Comment

Summary: Camille Marino owns an up-and-coming food truck in San Francisco. While the truck does well, she’s barely holding her head above water. Coupled with the challenges of being the guardian of her younger sister, Camille is in desperate need of a night out. She gets a little more than she bargained for when that night out leads to reconnecting with her first love, Drew Bautista. Drew is thrilled to see Camille again, though the timing could definitely be better. His Army unit will be […]

Parker does it again (needs more Richard)

May 28, 2017 by J 2 Comments

Despite the generally positive reviews, I avoided Lucy Parker’s follow-up to the delightful Act Like It for fear that it wouldn’t live up to the hype. Big shock: the book is excellent. (Though Act Like It will probably remain my favorite.) Pretty Face has an additional 100 pages which Parker uses well. Lily and Luc are both three-dimensional characters. Lily is a vampy soap actress with her first role in a big ticket West End production. Professionally, her overblown Marilyn Monroe-esque features and breathy, sex kitten […]

Lovers to friends to lovers

May 23, 2017 by Malin 2 Comments

4.5 stars Alice “Allie” McGuffey is the best radio producer WBBB in Tuttle, Ohio has ever had and it’s pretty much the unspoken truth that she’s the reason the radio station runs as well as it does. She loves her job and thrives on it, so when the radio station’s current Drivetime star, Mark King, who up until two months ago was her lover, tells her that she’s been moved to a different time slot, and from now on, he’ll be using Lisa, her former […]
