KATIE: Y’all. Kristen Ashley has finally managed to surprise me. In WILD LIKE THE WIND, she has created a book that begins with a bit of history relevant to the Chaos Motorcycle Club, LOTS of sex, and an attempt at redeeming a previously unlikable character so he can be the hero of this story. PATTY: YAY! SHE’S BACK! We have missed her so. KATIE: You could say this one starts off with a BANG. NOT THAT KIND OF A BANG. Duh. This kind. And many […]
Hooking up at a con still seems like a dicey proposition.
I really like this series, centered on a group of friends who are immersed (to varying degrees) in geek/gamer/STEM culture. They’re relatively short reads; Goodreads says this one clocks in at 158 pages. But the characters don’t get short-changed and the plot flows fairly easily. Our heroine, Ani is a immunology graduate student weeks away from presenting her dissertation proposal for approval. She’s had to switch advisors late in the game, and her new advisor is a mustache-twirling sexist who hopes to make her life […]
This review is mostly gifs of African pygmy hedgehogs.
Project: Catch Up On Review Backlog, review #3 out of 11 So this review has actually been stalling me for a month now, for no particular reason. Maybe I felt pressured to live up to all the cute hedgehog gifs I’ve included below with my words. Or maybe it’s because I’ve since found (thanks to the CBR Facebook group) that Lucy Parker reads Cannonball Read sometimes (!!). No pressure, y’all. Sometimes when I write reviews I pretend authors don’t exist, for just this reason. Oh, […]
Well, someone was living her dream of a manners-free life.
While Alyssa Cole isn’t on my auto-buy list of authors*, I’m always going to check out her new releases. She writes stories with smart, engaging characters that I like spending time with. I enjoyed A Princess in Theory so much that I pre-ordered A Duke by Default as soon as it was available. I swallowed this book whole, you guys. Flighty rich girl Portia, Ledi’s friend from Theory, runs away from New York to take up a swordmaking apprenticeship in Scotland. Her master is grumpy […]
I Only Now Realized the Double Meaning of the Title …
I don’t think I really have anything to say about this one that hasn’t been said already – yes, Lucy Parker consistently writes very good contemporary romances. This one was good but not quite as engaging/addictive as her previous novels. I think she chose a heavier subject for this one, and it reflected in the novel. That’s not a negative at all but it means it wasn’t quite as light and fun as her previous two novels (and certainly Pretty Face had some darker turns […]
A Well-Written Romance Novel But Not Quite for Me
I immensely enjoyed For Real, and for some reason thought it made sense to me to follow it up with the next novel in the series even though publishing order really has no bearing on reading order for romance novels, in general. Usually, I don’t even look at romance novel covers because they have nothing to do with the book, but the Pansies cover has two men in a flower shop so it’s actually completely relevant to what is happening in the novel. I think […]
