Solid Romance About Sisters

The Summer of Sunshine and Margot by Susan Mallery

May 24, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Please note that I received this book for free via NetGalley. This did not affect my rating or review. This book will be released on June 11, 2019.  Well that was actually a good read compared to the other two books I finished this weekend. There were some weak subplots going on, but I did love the two sisters (Sunshine and Margot) relationship. For once we didn’t get very little scenes with people who are related. These two depend on each other and love each […]

Ollie and Darling vs Fay and Oliver

Playing House by Ruby Lang

May 19, 2019 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

Ruby Lang is one of my favorite new (to me) authors. I have been waiting impatiently for her new book, Playing House, and was delighted to find that it was on NetGalley. I was even more delighted when it showed up in my in box. This is an honest review. Oliver Huang and Fay Liu have known each other for years, their friends know each other, and they are in the same profession – urban planning. Their acquaintance never turned romantic because Fay was in […]

Another Concussion Plot? Are You Kidding Me?

Hard Knocks by Ruby Lang

May 16, 2019 by Mrs. Julien Leave a Comment

I feel so on trend! It’s another love story with a concussion plot point as I continue to recover from one. Acute Reactions was a well-written romance with some comeheregoaway issues in the plotting. It’s looking like a consistent issue with Ruby Lang, but it’s a minor quibble, I really enjoy her dry, funny style, and will be looking for her books. Hard Knocks has less of the vacillation issues and, from what I’ve read of the third book, Clean Breaks, it’s stronger still. Transplanted Canadian […]

A Majestic Nose and the Sensitivity of a Sledgehammer

The Austen Playbook by Lucy Parker

May 1, 2019 by Mrs. Julien 3 Comments

YAY! Lucy Parker is back with another wry, gratifying, and witty romance featuring a difficult man and a delightful woman. Freddy Carlton is theatre royalty, descended from generations of performers and the granddaughter of the playwright of a seminal masterpiece called The Velvet Room. Poised to move into the highest ranks of Serious Acting, she’d rather do work that brings joy to herself and others. We met her as a late teen in Pretty Face and she is now a full adult, though only 23. With her father strong-arming her […]

Ice Cream Lover by Jackie Lau

April 30, 2019 by Emmalita 7 Comments

I read Ice Cream Lover twice in one day. The joke in the title is that Drew hates ice cream and Chloe owns an Asian ice cream shop called Ginger Scoops. I 100% want an Asian ice cream store close by so that I too can have ginger ice cream in a bubble waffle cone. After reading two of Jackie Lau’s books, I’m going to need her to come out with a cookbook soon too. Ice Cream Lover is out May 21. I received this ARC in exchange […]

A Cute Reaction Is Right

Acute Reactions by Ruby Lang

April 28, 2019 by Mrs. Julien 1 Comment

Do you have any idea how long it’s been since I’ve read a contemporary romance that featured neither so-called new adults, nor athletes? There is so much to like in Ruby Lang’s Acute Reactions that I could get past what I thought needed work; however, I would like some reassurance that the same structural problems  aren’t found in all of her books. Instead of starting out with an established medical group, allergist Petra Lale has opened her own practice right after completing her training. Ian Zamora co-owns […]
