Grumpy and Guarded and Falling in Love

Island Fling with the Tycoon by Therese Beharrie

June 21, 2019 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

I received this from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I enjoyed Island Fling with the Tycoon so much. It was my first Therese Beharrie book and I look forward to many more. Piper Evans flies from her home in Cape Town, South Africa to the Greek Islands to attend her older brother’s wedding. Piper and her brother, Liam, survived growing up with a very controlling father and have not been close as adults. She had not felt like she could afford to travel […]

A fun, but forgettable detective romp

What the Lady Wants by Jennifer Crusie

June 20, 2019 by Malin 2 Comments

From Goodreads: Mitch Peabody was learning pretty fast that the life of a private detective was nothing like the movies. He’d envisioned a world of tough-talking detectives and smart-mouthed, stunning dames. Instead he saw case after case of cheating husbands, suspicious wives and unsuspecting mistresses until she walked through the door. Right down to her stilettos, Mae Sullivan was a knockout with a lethal body–and a lethal family to go with it.  There was something not quite on the up-and-up about her, but she came […]

“And it wasn’t like JT was the Buddha or some sage. He was just another human who was trying to figure it all out, same as she was. But he’d just said all the right words in a row.”

Hot in Hellcat Canyon by Julie Anne Long

June 11, 2019 by NTE 4 Comments

Did you ever start book one of a series, or of a new to you author, and a few pages in, you’ve got to take a break and log in to your library and see how many of their other books you can put on hold? Yeah, so that was me, about fifteen pages into Hot In Hellcat Canyon, a contemporary romance, by Julie Anne Long.  And it turns out, Ms. Long is not exactly a new to me author – Goodreads tells me I have, in […]

Lavender’s Blue, Dilly Dilly, Lavender’s Green

A Kiss in Lavendar by Laura Florand

June 8, 2019 by Mrs. Julien Leave a Comment

Short Version: I liked Laura Florand’s A Kiss in Lavender, though it felt more serious than other books in the La Vie en Roses series. The love story was heartfelt, the happy ending earned, and it had a substantial, forthright hero and a deeply vulnerable, but assertive heroine with the heart of a lion. I’ve read it twice now and while it’s not as swoony as some Florand, it has a kind of grounded solidity that I appreciate. For the Long Version, including a mondering […]

What is Addiction?

Rachel's Holiday by Marian Keyes

June 7, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

I definitely liked “Rachel’s Holiday” a lot more than “Watermelon.” Maybe because this one more expressly shows the flaws in the Walsh family matriarch and father. Also, I still disliked Helen in this one too. Anna seems mostly harmless and cares. We also get to see/hear more about Maggie(one of the 5 sisters). I felt sorry for Rachel who is in the midst of addiction and doesn’t even want to admit what has been going on with her. And unlike with Claire in the last […]

Watermelon or Doormat? You Decide

Watermelon by Marian Keyes

June 7, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

So I have all of the Walsh Family books in paperback. I haven’t read them in years, but decided to take the first two for a whirl this weekend. And now I wonder if I read this years ago and liked Claire or what? Cause Claire drives me a bit insane in this book. And when you read about how she changes over the course of the series, she ends up being the Walsh sister I dislike the most (tied with Helen and her book, […]
