(Most of) The Improbable Meet-Cute Collection

Rosie and the Dreamboat by Sally Thorne

Worst Wingman Ever by Abby Jiminez

Drop, Cover, and Hold On by Jasmine Guillory

The Exception to the Rule by Christina Lauren

With Any Luck by Ashley Poston

“Improbable Meet Cute” is a great concept for a short story/not quite a novella collection! The “Amazon Original Stories” branding makes me nervous because it just screams “Do it for the publicity instead of the money because we said so!”,  so I made a point of paying for all five stories to support the authors. In reviewing them, I am tried to decide if they should be appreciated as a delightful, self-contained jewel or as something that leaves you wanting more like a  novella or even […]

One Night Only by Catherine Walsh

Short Version: He’s a charmer. She can’t get out her own head. Panic and a medium misunderstanding. Shorter Version: Oy vey with the comeheregoaway. Shortest Version: Walk away, man. Having made the happy discovery of new-to-me author Catherine Walsh, and wanting to encourage her ongoing output, I have snapped up most of her very reasonably priced catalogue. All of her novels come with sub/sur-titles exclaiming, “An absolutely hilarious and uplifting romantic comedy” or “A totally hilarious and unforgettable Christmas romantic comedy”. This 2021 effort, One […]

Road Trips and Christmas Huzzah!

Holiday Romance by Catherine Walsh

Snowed In by Catherine Walsh

February 20, 2024 by Mrs. Julien 3 Comments

Following the magnificent Emmalita’s recommendation (as one should in all things), somehow I went to buy Charlotte Stein’s When Grumpy Met Sunshine and ended up with Catherine Walsh’s Snowed In instead. I have no idea what happened, but the book was still great and now I have a new author! Such are the transitive powers of Emmalita’s approbation*. Now, not only did I buy the wrong book, but I read  Holiday Romance and Snowed In out of series order before circling back for a second […]

What if Lara Croft and Indiana Jones worked together on a dig?

Raiders of the Lost Heart by Jo Segura

February 18, 2024 by Malin Leave a Comment

3.5 stars Official book description: When archaeologist Dr. Socorro ‘Corrie’ Mejía is invited to join an all-expenses-paid dig in the Mexican jungle, she thinks her wildest dreams have come true. It’s her life goal to lead an expedition in search of the long-lost remains of her ancestor, Chimalli, an ancient warrior of the Aztec empire. But as the world-renowned expert on the topic, Corrie should be leading the expedition, not sharing the glory with her disgustingly handsome nemesis. Dr. Ford Matthews has been finding new […]

A hockey romance with less hockey and more coping with grief

Canadian Boyfriend by Jenny Holiday

February 17, 2024 by Malin 4 Comments

CBR16 Sweet Books: Exciting (I’ve been looking forward to this for a long time, and was VERY excited to get an ARC shortly before the release date. Nowhere Bingo: A book with multiple POVs This was an audio ARC from NetGalley. My opinions are my own.  When Aurora “Rory” Evans was a lonely teenager, she ran into a handsome Canadian hockey player while she was selling coffee at the Mall of America. She took his name and pretended to have an actual Canadian boyfriend, making […]

Different People Like Different Things

Book Lovers by Emily Henry

February 13, 2024 by Mrs. Julien Leave a Comment

Given a glimpse at some stats it would seem my re-read and this review are redundant (4.5 out of 5 stars from 75,912 ratings on Amazon; 4.1 on Goodreads from 988,148 ratings), but here I go:  Glorious! 4.5 stars! All the laughter and the joy! Sincere emotions! Hail fellows well met! Amazon’s Version: Nora Stephens… agrees to go to Sunshine Falls, North Carolina for the month of August when Libby begs her for a sisters’ trip away—with visions of a small town transformation for Nora, who she’s […]
