Note to Self: Always Trust Courtney Milan!

February 13, 2015 by HillaryM 2 Comments

I admit, even though I absolutely adore everything I’ve read by Courtney Milan, I had a teeny moment of hesitation about picking up Trade Me. I’m usually not interested in contemporary romance, and “New Adult” as a genre name irrationally bugs me. I’m so glad I decided to check out the first chapter when she posted it on her website, though, because I was instantly hooked. And of course the full book was amazing too. I should never have had a doubt.

Tale as old as time

February 9, 2015 by Lizbth 3 Comments

Length: 300 pages in the print edition Time taken: 3 hours   Layla DuBois inherits a house in a valley in the South of France, and goes there to recharge her creative batteries. Unfortunately, the valley already has an owner, Matt Rosier, and he is not happy that “his” property has been stolen. can this beauty tame the beast?   Taking most of its elements from the classic fairytale Beauty and the Beast, OUaR is a well-written and enjoyable spin on a familiar story. The […]

Insider trading is illegal fyi

February 5, 2015 by Lizbth 3 Comments

Pages: 280 in PB although I read the Kindle vcrsion Time taken: ~3 hours (does anyone actually time these? I read about 100 pages per hour or the average book, I just guess based on that.)   Tina Chen has a loving but disorganised family, a job in a library, two majors, and a room-mate. Blake Reynolds has a loving but asshole father, a job at a high-tech company, one major, and $1.4billion (US). An argument over food-stamps and the reality of living in poverty in […]

Contemporary Romance Made of Roses and Deft Escapism

Once Upon a Rose by Laura Florand

February 4, 2015 by Mrs. Julien 3 Comments

Welcome to my autobuy list, Laura Florand. With her newest contemporary romance, she has guaranteed that I will be making ready and willing contributions to her income for the foreseeable future, pages and reviews unseen. In the first novel in her new series, La Vie en Roses, Florand has again mixed lovely escapism with sincere romance and, for the first time, a wonderful dose of humour. Her books were not previously morose, but this one has a conviviality that just adds to the fun, Once […]

Another day, another Trade Me review

February 3, 2015 by alwaysanswerb 8 Comments

I’m not going to break new ground in reviewing here. Trade Me is every bit as great as one should come to expect from a Courtney Milan romance, with her trademark mixture of iconoclastic female characters, wit, progressive agenda, and wonderful chemistry between her main players. Brevity is the soul of this plot summary: Tina Chen, a student of low financial means, “trades places” for a semester with Blake Reynolds, young billionaire, after the former challenges the latter that he wouldn’t last two weeks in […]

Courtney Milan does it again. Now with New Adult

February 2, 2015 by Malin 9 Comments

4.5 stars Disclaimer! I was given an ARC of this through NetGalley in return for a fair and unbiased review. Of course, it being a Courtney Milan book, I had also already pre-ordered it, because I will buy anything she writes, even if said thing is a scientific treatise on spiders and cockroaches (the things that creep my out the most). If Ms. Milan ever reads this – please don’t ever write a book like that. I will buy it, but I might not like […]
