A contemporary romance with panic attacks

June 22, 2015 by Malin Leave a Comment

Divorce lawyer Victoria Slade has a cynical view of romance and relationships. She’s seen enough bitter divorces and custody battles to really believe in happily ever after. She’s certainly not looking for anything permanent herself. Not that she’d mind something casual, she just needs to find the right guy. Who certainly isn’t her new next-door neighbour, who while he seemed hot when their eyes met across a bar, appears to have a veritable cavalcade of women in and out of his apartment at all hours […]

That gif, tho

June 15, 2015 by Emmalita 7 Comments

Malin reviewed The Hook Up a few days ago and made it sound pretty irresistible. And then she made it harder to resist by sending me a copy. She is a good person and will surely be rewarded in whatever afterlife happens, or maybe next year, who knows. When I started to read the book, I came across a moment with Anna (our female protagonist) and her best friend Iris in which Anna mentions she has this gif (->) on her computer. Any one who […]

One Crowded Hour of Glorious Life Is Worth an Age Without a Name (and a Cannonball)

June 9, 2015 by Mrs. Julien 31 Comments

All her life, Valancy Stirling has lived on a quiet street in an ugly little house in northern Ontario, Canada and never dared to contradict her domineering mother and unforgiving aunt. The deeply squelching kind of small town life L.M. Montgomery describes for Valancy is one that I recognize as Canadian, but of course is universal. To escape her life of quiet desperation, Valancy has created a world apart for herself called “The Blue Castle”. This private realm in which things are beautiful and she […]

The hero’s a tight-end, and you’d better believe there are jokes about that

June 8, 2015 by Malin 4 Comments

4.5 stars Gray Grayson does not have female friends, he has former and future conquests. The closest thing he has to a female friend is his best friend Drew‘s new girlfriend. That’s it. So no one is more surprised than he, when he seems to be developing a close relationship with a woman he’s never even met, via text message of all things. When Gray has to lend his own car to Drew for a while, he’s left with no other options than to borrow […]

I neither know nor care about American football, but this book was entertaining

June 8, 2015 by Malin 11 Comments

Anna was either bullied or completely ignored in high school. With the exception of a few loyal friends, she was pretty much a social outcast. She has worked hard to become comfortable with herself and her body image. So when her college’s star quarterback addresses her as “Big Red” in one of their shared classes, he instantly earns her animosity. Drew Baylor is tall, gorgeous, extremely athletic and popular in all areas of college life. As Anna just wants to keep her head down and […]

Best kind of accident, I suppose.

June 3, 2015 by NTE 1 Comment

The aptly titled Accidentally In Love, is a contemporary romance set somewhere in the middle of author Laura Drewry’s Friends First series.  Since I got my copy from NetGalley, I wasn’t aware I was jumping in in the middle of a series, but it’s pretty easy to tell that the pre-paired couples’ stories must have already been told in the previous books.  You don’t need to know them to appreciate Ellie and Brett’s story, but some people (me) like to start at the beginning, so […]
