Little Green Men by Christopher Buckley

August 14, 2014 by badkittyuno Leave a Comment

Another witty, political novel by Christopher Buckley, in which a gorgeous, intelligent woman teams up with a WASP-y politician/lawyer/TV pundit to do…something in Washington. But you know what? Buckley still manages to crack me up with his writing, even though some of his characters (particularly those with breasts) could be lifted from any one of his novels and dropped into another without missing a beat. Because the characters aren’t really the point — the story is. And the story is pretty damn good. In Little […]

Boomsday by Christopher Buckley

June 6, 2014 by badkittyuno Leave a Comment

I had to keep stopping this book in order to read chunks out loud to my husband (which I’m sure he loved) because it was so wonderfully ludicrous that I couldn’t help but share. Classic Christopher Buckley. Boomsday refers to the day that all the baby boomers start collecting social security and, you know, the whole economy collapses. Since this is a Christopher Buckley novel, our protagonist is a super-hot, whip-smart 28 year chick named Cassandra Devine (yeah). He does know how to write interesting […]

They Eat Puppies, Don’t They? by Christopher Buckley

April 25, 2014 by badkittyuno Leave a Comment

Another Christoper Buckley satirical novel. In this one, Washington lobbyist, spin doctor and all-around sleazy dude “Bird” McIntyre has been tasked with creating anti-Chinese sentiment in order to increase the defense budget and therefore benefit a weapons manufacturer. To do this, he teams up with a Angel Templeton, who has a sharp brain, long legs and no morals. Together, they create a rumor that the Chinese have poisoned the Dalai lama, and everything goes to hell from there. Like most (all?) of Buckley’s novels, the characters are basically […]

No Way to Treat a First Lady by Christopher Buckley

April 9, 2014 by badkittyuno Leave a Comment

No Way to Treat a First Lady is now the third Christopher Buckley book I’ve read, and while it’s not my favorite so far, I did like it enough to order a couple more of his novels off of Amazon. His particular brand of humor (smarmy, sarcastic political satire) really does it for me and the fun plots of his books are icing on the cake. In No Way to Treat a First Lady, First Lady Elizabeth MacMann (aka Lady Bethmac) is put on trial after her cheating husband […]
